User Account Administration

This chapter describes several security levels provided by the ViewRunner for Windows software, logging onto the system initially, and how to define users and passwords.

Overview and Guidelines for Security Levels

ViewRunner for Windows provides three levels of security.

All levels of security can use ViewRunner for Windows to do the following tasks:


Note Only administrator and operator IDs can use ViewRunner for Windows to add, delete, or change configuration information about the equipment in the Cisco 6100 Series system.

Starting ViewRunner for Windows

You can start ViewRunner for Windows in one of two ways:

To start ViewRunner for Windows, follow these steps:


Step 1 Double-click the ViewRunner icon. The Login dialog box in Figure 5-1 appears.

Note If you click Cancel, ViewRunner for Windows closes.

Table 5-1 describes the fields in the ViewRunner for Windows Login dialog box.

Field Description

User Name

Prompts you for your user name.

This field is not case sensitive.

Password

Prompts you for your password.

This field is not case sensitive.

Step 2 Enter your user name and password. Click OK.


Note If the system administrator did not create a valid name and password for you, you cannot log in to ViewRunner for Windows.

The ViewRunner for Windows Splash dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 5-2.

Defining Users

The first time you use ViewRunner for Windows, a message appears stating that no users are defined. ViewRunner for Windows automatically opens the User Administration dialog box with defaults as follows (see Figure 5-3):

To change any of these defaults, enter new information into that field.
