Guidelines for HP OpenView NNM Installation

To complete the HP OpenView NNM installation successfully, note the following guidelines:

During the installation of ViewRunner for HP OpenView, a prompt asks for patch PSOV_02468. This patch was the Cumulative Consolidated Patch.
    /usr/ccs/bin/what <OV install directory>/bin/ovw | grep <patch number>

     /usr/ccs/bin/what /opt/OV/bin/ovw | grep <patch number>

Procedure for Installing HP OpenView NNM

The HP OpenView NNM installation is described fully in document J1136-90000, HP OpenView Network Node Manager Products Installation Guide.

Step 1 If HP OpenView NNM is already installed, use the following command to verify the version:

<OV install directory>/bin/ovversion

If the HP OpenView install directory is /opt, execute the following command:

/opt/OV/bin/ovversion

Step 2 Log in as root to the workstation onto which you want to install NNM.

Step 3 Insert the HP OpenView Network Node Manager CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 4 Determine the device filename of your CD-ROM drive.

Step 5 Mount the CD-ROM drive by typing the appropriate command, specifying the appropriate drive device filename and the directory onto which you want to mount the file system. The directory can be any existing directory.

For Solaris 2.x that is running volume management, the CD-ROM is mounted automatically. If it is the only CD-ROM mounted on the file system, it is typically mounted as /cdrom/cdrom0.

Step 6 Change to the directory where you mounted the CD-ROM file system. For example:

    # cd /cdrom/cdrom0

Step 7 Execute the following command to install NNM:

    # ./install

Step 8 Answer the questions that appear on the screen.

The installation process begins. The installation program goes through two phases, analysis and execution. Installation progress messages display on the screen throughout the installation process.

When the installation is complete, you see a status message that begins with one of the following statements:

    Your installation was successful.

Errors have been encountered in your installation.

Installing the NNM Patch

ViewRunner requires that you install the PSOV_02468 HP OpenView patch for NNM 5.01. This section shows a sample installation.

Note This patch requires that you modify several files. The instructions for making those modifications are in the patch.

You can locate patches through the HP OpenView NNM 5.0.1/Solaris 2.x patch page at the following URL:

http://ovweb.external.hp.com:80/cpe/patches/nnm/5.0x/sparc_2.X.html

As new patches are added, they are identified on this web page.

Take the following steps to install patch PSOV_02468:

Step 1 Log in as the root user.

Step 2 Ensure that the HP OpenView environment variables are set.

    # source /opt/OV/bin/ov.envvars.csh

or

    # . /opt/OV/bin/ov.envvars.sh

Step 3 Back up the system.

Step 4 Copy the patch to your /tmp directory and unshar it:

# cd /tmp
# cp patch_source/PSOV_02468 .
# sh PSOV_02468

Step 5 Remove the patch shar file:

# rm /tmp/PSOV_02468

Step 6 untar the patch:

# tar xovf /tmp/PSOV_02468.tar

Step 7 Change to the patch directory and run the install_patch script:

# cd /tmp/PSOV_02468.install
# ./install_patch

Follow the instructions in the patch installation script.

Note The ViewRunner for HP OpenView default font for several table column headers is dependent on the UNIX CDE desktop font, which causes truncated headers unless the CDE font is reduced to size 3 or less.

Verifying a Successful Installation

To verify that your installation was successful, follow these steps:

Step 1 Check the end of the log file /var/adm/sw/swagent.log. The status messages for this installation are the final entries in the file. Each set of status messages includes the date and time that the installation occurred. Look for the date and time that corresponds to the most recent installation.

If the installation program completed without fatal errors, each file set that was installed should have the word Configured next to it.

Although you might see the status message ERROR, if Configured appears next to each file set, the installation was successful.

Step 2 Scan the NOTE and WARNING sections to see if there are any other steps that you might need to take.

Note To remove the software, follow the instructions in "Removing Product Bundles" in the HP OpenView Network Node Manager Products Installation Guide.
