Verifying Provisioned Subscribers and Unlocking Entities

Verifying Provisioned Subscribers and Unlocking Entities

This chapter includes instructions for verifying the subscriber settings that you completed in the preceding chapters and for unlocking the entities that you locked when completing the provisioning tasks. These two tasks are the final steps for provisioning subscribers.

This chapter includes the following sections:

Overview and Purpose

Before you unlock subscriber entities and then exit the system, you should verify the provisioning settings that you have added or modified for subscribers. You should also check the PVC settings.

Steps for Verifying Provisioned Subscriber Settings

Complete the following steps to verify the settings that you have provisioned for subscribers:

Step 1 Right-click the module whose settings you want to verify to open the Port Status tab on the Module Properties dialog box, shown in Figure 4-1.

Step 2 Check to see whether the CPE is trained up by looking at the Port Status dialog box.

Step 3 Verify that the upstream and downstream settings are correct in the Actual Upstream Rate and Downstream Rate fields in the Status of Trained ATU-C Ports group box.

Next, you should verify all subscriber PVCs by completing the following steps:

Step 1 Right- or double-click the chassis frame or edge, and choose View Subscriber PVCs from the menu to open the View All Subscriber PVCs dialog box, shown in
Figure 4-2.

Step 2 Scroll across the Subscriber PVCs dialog box and check the settings for each of the following fields:

Step 3 Click Close when you have finished verifying the subscriber PVC settings.

Before you can place subscribers back into service, you must unlock the entities that you locked in the previous sections.

Unlocking Entities---Overview and Purpose

Once you have entered and verified all port, subscriber, and VCI/VPI data, you must unlock any affected entities to place them into service. Modules and ports will not provide transmission service in a Locked state.

Guidelines for Unlocking Entities

Consider the following guidelines for unlocking entities:

Steps for Unlocking Entities

This section includes the following set of instructions. You can unlock entities in any order that is most convenient for you. The sequence presented here would be intuitive if you have just completed provisioning subscribers.

Unlocking a Subscriber

Complete the following steps to unlock a subscriber:

Step 1 Position the cursor on the appropriate ATU-C or STU-C port.

Step 2 Choose Port Properties > Configuration as shown in Figure 4-3.

The Port Configuration tab on the Module Properties dialog box opens, shown in Figure 4-4.

Step 3 Click Edit Subscriber.

The Subscriber Properties dialog box shown in Figure 4-5 opens.

The Administrative State displays as Locked until you change it.

Step 4 Click Unlocked.

Step 5 Click Apply, and then OK.

The subscriber is now unlocked and available for service.

Note If you do not unlock the subscriber, a green blinking LED appears on the ATU-C or STU-C port when the customer premises equipment (CPE) tries to train for service. If this signal occurs, the Cisco 6100 Series system does not grant service to the requesting customer.

Note The Administrative state for each subscriber must remain locked when you define PVC information. Once the PVC information is defined, you can unlock the subscriber to return that subscriber to service.

Unlocking a Port

Complete the following steps to unlock a port:

Step 1 From the Cisco 6100 Series Chassis View, right-click an ATU-C or STU-C module and select Port Properties > Configuration.

The Port Configuration tab on the Module Properties dialog box opens, shown in Figure 4-6).

Step 2 Click Unlocked to unlock the port for service.

Step 3 Click Apply and then OK to return to the Chassis View.

Unlocking a Module

Complete the following steps to unlock a module:

Step 1 On the GUI, right-click the ATU-C module or quad-port STU-C module and choose Module Properties > Configuration from the menu, as shown in Figure 4-7.

Figure 4-7: Selecting Module Properties---Configuration

The Configuration tab on the Module Properties dialog box opens, shown in Figure 4-8.

Step 2 Click Unlocked on the ATU-C or STU-C Module Properties dialog box to unlock the module for service.

Step 3 Click Apply, and then OK to return to the GUI.

You have completed the tasks for provisioning subscribers for a Direct Connect configuration. The principles and procedures you have learned in the previous sections give you the basis to set up subtending, which is described in the remaining chapters.
