The first step in installing ViewRunner for HP OpenView is to install the HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM). The installation is described fully in document J1136-90000, HP OpenView Network Node Manager Products Installation Guide.
However, the installation consists primarily of the following steps:
Step 1 Log in as root to the workstation onto which you want to install NNM.
Step 2 Insert the HP OpenView Network Node Manager CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
Step 3 Determine the device filename of your CD-ROM drive.
Step 4 Mount the CD-ROM drive by typing the appropriate command, specifying the appropriate drive device filename and the directory onto which you want to mount the file system. The directory can be any existing directory.
For Solaris 2.x running volume management, the CD-ROM will be mounted automatically. If it is the only CD-ROM mounted on the file system, it will typically be mounted as /cdrom/cdrom0.
Step 5 Change to the directory where you mounted the CD-ROM file system. For example:
# cd /cdrom/cdrom0
Step 6 Execute the following command to install NNM:
# ./install
Step 7 Answer the questions that appear on the screen.
The installation begins. The installation program goes through two phases: Analysis and Execution. Messages indicating the progress of the installation are written to the screen throughout the installation process. When installation is complete, you will see a status message beginning with one of the following:
Your installation was successful.
If you receive the above message, go to "Verify a Successful Installation".
Errors have been encountered in your installation.
If you receive the above message, go to the Section "If Errors Occurred" of the HP OpenView Network Node Manager Products Installation Guide.
ViewRunner requires the PSOV_02123 HP OpenView patch to be installed for NNM 4.11.
Patches are available through the HP OpenView NNM 4.1x/Solaris 2.x patch page at the following URL: http://ovweb.external.hp.com:80/cpe/patches/nnm/4.1x/sparc_2.X.html. As new patches are added, they will be identified on this web page.
The following are the steps you take to install PSOV_02123.
Step 1 Log in as the root user.
Step 2 Ensure the HP OpenView environment variables are set.
# source /opt/OV/bin/ov.envvars.csh
or
# . /opt/OV/bin/ov.envvars.sh
Step 3 Ensure HP OpenView, the OpenView License Manger, and the Tracing and Logging facility are not running.
# $OV_BIN/ovstop
# sh /etc/init.d/ovlmd stop
# $OV_BIN/nettl -stop
Step 4 Back up the system.
Step 5 Copy the patch to your /tmp directory and unshar it:
# cd /tmp
# cp patch_source/PSOV_02123 .
# sh PSOV_02123
Step 6 Remove the patch shar file:
# rm /tmp/PSOV_02123
Step 7 untar the patch:
# tar xovf /tmp/PSOV_02123.tar
Step 8 Change to the patch directory and run the install_patch script:
# cd /tmp/PSOV_02123.install
# ./install_patch
Follow the instructions in the patch installation script.
Step 9 Run ovtopofix -U.
To verify that your installation was successful, check the end of the log file /var/adm/sw/swagent.log. Messages are appended to this file. Therefore, the status messages for this installation will be the final entries in the file. Each set of status messages includes the date and the time the installation occurred. Look for the date and time that corresponds to the most recent installation.
If the installation program completed without fatal errors, each fileset that was installed should have the word Configured next to it. Although you may see the status message ERROR, if Configured appears next to each fileset, the installation was successful. You may want to scan the NOTE and WARNING sections to see if there are any other steps you might need to take.
