Adding and Deleting System Components

Adding and Deleting System Components

ViewRunner allows you to add and delete various system components including both chassis and modules. This chapter discusses the following.

11.1 Adding a Line Concentration Chassis

New LCCs can be added manually to a Cisco 6100. This is useful when preprovisioning the node prior to physical equipment being present.

Step 1 Open the Chassis View for the Cisco 6100 where you want to add an LCC.

Step 2 Choose the Edit > Add option from the Chassis View menu.

Step 3 Enter the Chassis ID (valid entries are 0-15) in the Add Chassis : <6100 name> dialog, and the LCC is added to the Chassis View.

11.2 Deleting a Line Concentration Chassis

To delete an LCC, follow the procedure below:

Step 1 Place your cursor over the top, bottom, or sides of the chassis to be deleted, and click the right button. The following pop-up menu appears.

Step 2 Select the Delete Chassis option and the chassis is deleted.

When you try to delete an LCC, you will receive a warning telling you that you will also delete all configuration information as well. Press OK to continue.

Note For SC software version 2.1.0 or later, the LIM controller must be locked in order to delete the line concentration chassis (LCC). The Delete Chassis option is disabled if the LIM controller is not locked. The multiplexer chassis (MC) may not be deleted since you cannot delete the primary SC. For SC software version 1.0.2, the LIM controller does not support an Administrative State, so all LIMs in the LCC must be explicitly locked to enable the Delete Chassis option.

11.3 Adding a Module

When you attempt to add a module in an empty slot, ViewRunner for HP OpenView displays only those modules that are allowed in the slot. To add a module to a slot, follow the procedures below.

Step 1 Access the 6100 Chassis View

Step 2 Move your cursor over an empty slot, and click the right mouse button. The following pop-up menu appears:

Step 3 Select Insert and choose the type of module to be inserted (if allowed), or accept the default module.

Note If ViewRunner for HP OpenView does not display any choices for module insertion, it means only one type of module can be inserted in that slot. For example, ViewRunner for HP OpenView does not display a module type when you attempt to insert a module into the slot designed for an SC. When selected, ViewRunner for HP OpenView automatically adds the only type of module allowed in that slot.

11.4 Deleting a Module

To delete an ATU-C module, follow the procedures below.

Step 1 Move your cursor over the module slot, and press the right mouse button. The following pop-up menu appears.

Step 2 Select the Delete Module option.

The ATU-C module is deleted.

To delete a LIM module, follow the procedures below.

Step 3 Move your cursor over the module slot, and press the right mouse button. The following pop-up menu appears.

Step 4 Select the Delete Module option.

ATU-C and LIM Modules

For ATU-C and line interface modules (LIMs), you must first lock the module before deleting it.

To lock a module, follow the procedures below:

Step 1 Move the cursor over the ATU-C or LIM slot and right click.

Step 2 Select the Port Properties > Configuration option.

Step 3 When the screen displays, select the Locked option under the Administrative State field.

If you delete LIM NI modules, however, you could interrupt subscriber calls taking place.

Network Interface Modules

You can delete network interface (NI) modules without first locking them.

System Controller

You cannot delete the primary SC, but you can delete any redundant SC modules.

Note Be sure to use the configuration save and restore feature to save your original configuration so you can restore it when new modules are installed. See "Configuration Save and Restore" for more details.
