These release notes document caveats pertaining to the Cisco Digital Subscriber Line Manager (CDM), Release 1.0.
For pointers to more detailed information about the Cisco 6260 and its software, refer to the "Related Documentation" section. To learn more about caveats, visit Cisco's web site---see the "Cisco Connection Online" section for details. Information about electronic documentation can be found in both the "Cisco Connection Online" section and in the "Documentation CD-ROM" section.
The CDM software can be deployed in a number of different configurations, from a single hardware system, to a multi-site distributed management system, using Sun Solaris/SPARC hardware with Solaris, Release 2.6.
Minimally, the server machine must meet the following requirements;

Note The additional disk is required for performance improvements of the database, not for additional storage capacity. Although the Sun Ultra 30 workstation is sufficient to run CDM, the Ultra 60, because it can include an additional CPU, will support future enhancements to CDM. |
In larger deployments with client-server configurations the recommended hardware specifications for typical client deployments are as follows:

Note It is useful to have a Sun color card (for example, 24 bit color) if many graphically intensive applications are also run on this workstation. A typical Server installation requires 370MB of free disk space in a file system, for example, /opt. The system also requires an appropriate amount of free disk space for database files. |
For a small deployments (for example, trials), the typical Client and Server can run together on a single workstation. The minimu78-10317-01m specification for this scenario is:
This following section describes how to install SCM 1.2 and CDM 1.0 on the same server.
Workaround instructions for getting CDM and SCM installed together:
To install CDM 1.0 and SCM 1.2 on the same server:
1. Install CEMF 2.1.4
2. Install AV_2.1.4-P3_1
3. Install SCM 1.2
4. Install CDM 1.0
After installing the CDM and SCM software, you must modify files in the <AVROOT>/config/mibControl directory according to the following instructions.
1. In the file x_c6260Manager.emLocalMibs, search for and locate all occurrences of the identified text and replace it with the specified text as follows:
2. In the file x_c6400Manager.emLocalMibs, search for and locate all occurrences of the identified text and replace it with the specified text as follows:
3. Change to the directory <AVROOT>/config/mib and issue the following command:
rm OLD-CISCO-SYSTEM-MIB.my
4. Change to the directory <AVROOT>/bin directory and issue the following commands:
./av start ./av dataload ./avsession
When you have completed these operations, you should be able to run both the CDM and SCM element managers.
This section describes caveats that have been identified in this release of the CDM.
When Performance Manager, is invoked, the Monitored Attributes field is empty; therefore, there are no attributes to monitor. All of the fields in the Time Period section of the Performance Manager screen contain zeros. Normally, these fields would contain the current system date/time. The Sampling Rate drop-down field is also empty; therefore, there are no sampling rates from which to choose.
On the client workstation, the file that contains the monitored attributes is located in:
config/monitoredAttributes/c6260Attr
On the server workstation the file that contains the monitored attributes is located in:
config/monitoredAttributes/install/c6260Attr
Copy the c6260Attr file directly from the installation directory to config/monitoredAttributes directory. This causes the attributes to appear in the Monitored Attributes field.

While adding/deleting and viewing PVCs in the PVC Configuration Manager, the PVC Configuration Manager disappeared and a core file appeared in /opt/AV/bin/.localSessionManagerServer.sysmgr/core.
The core file occurred on a client workstation. No cores were present on the server workstation.
The core file was created while watching the PVC table refresh, when navigating between two different cards/ports.

It appears that CDM interchanges the upstream/dowstream parameters for SNR Margin and attentuation in comparison to what IOS shows for an active port in the ADSL Line Status screen.
In addition, IOS shows trellis encoding "not in use" but CDM indicates "TrellisOn." These discrepancies appear to be SNMP problems.

When several event browsers for various objects are opened and closed, occasionally, the Object Manager window hangs with a `watch' over the window. The window never recovers.
Close all of the Event Browser windows and close the Object Manager window using the workstation window manager. Then reopen the Object Manager from the Launchpad.
[CSCdp01859]
After installation, when the server was started and running the element manager, there was no manager object within the object manager. This problem is intermittent, but happens frequently enough to be a concern.
Reinstall CDM and reload the database on the server. After server startup, issue the following two commands:
./av start
./av dataload
[CSCdp15261]
The If-MIB.ifTable within the OC3Shelf Object Configuration Screen did not return the identical value for objects acquired using the command line interface as it does using CDM. In many cases, CDM shows a value of 0 (zero) for objects that do not exist.

If a 6260 object is created with the incorrect community strings, you cannot correct the problem by using Configure->management. The object continues to be set to public and private strings.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following workarounds.
1. Position the cursor on the chassis object, hold down the right mouse button and select AV Tools.
2. Set the Read and Write community strings correctly and close the window.
3. Position the cursor on the chassis object again, hold down the right mouse button, and select Configure -> Management.
4. Set the Read and Write community strings if they are not already set correctly.
5. Click on the Change button (whether the strings were correct originally or not).
6. Click yes to save the configuration changes.
1. Deploy the chassis object using the correct community strings.
2. Change the community strings on the 6260 chassis.
3. Delete the chassis and recreate it using correct strings.

Attempting to deploy a Cisco 6260 DSLAM under a site using the same Shelf/Chassis/NI2 name and IP address as one used to name a DSLAM deployed under a different site generates a pop-up failure message. However, the 6260 DSLAM is deployed despite the failure message.
When attempting to commission the newly deployed NI2 card, the commission fails and stays in a state in which the tooltips on the "Commission" and "Decommission" buttons on the NI2 Status screen read "Already Commissioned" and "Already Decommissioned" respectively.
After deleting that site, try to deploy a new site. Attempting to deploy a Cisco 6260 DSLAM under the new site using the same Shelf/Chassis/NI2 name and IP address as one used to name a DSLAM deployed under a different site generates a similar deployment failure message. However, the 6260 DSLAM is deployed despite the failure message. Attempting to commission the newly deployed NI2 card fails and the 'Exiting EMF ...' failure message is displayed. Then the c6260Controller.sysmgr on the server performs a core dump.
Subsequent attempts to deploy a site object and deploy/commission the non-uniquely named and IP addressed DSLAM, may also receive a core dump on the localsession mgr file on the client.

When the Configure -> ADSL Line screen for a DMT card is invoked, the pull-down menu for Admin Status includes up, down, and testing. The "testing" option should be removed from the menu.

In a configuration in which the CDM server had two interfaces, the server and clients were associated with IP address 172.27.137.255. The Cisco 6260s were associated with the second interface on the server for which the IP address was 4.4.7.255.
A site object was created in the object manager and Auto Discovery was run on the new site object. The begin/end IP address was double clicked to change the class C network address 172.27.137 to a class A network address 4.4.7. Then, clicking on OK returned the error message:
"Invalid value in field of address"
There was no way to correct or change the subnet mask.
Deploy a network with the correct IP and initiate auto-discovery from the new object.
