Connectors, Pinouts, and Port Mapping

Connectors, Pinouts, and Port Mapping

This appendix provides connectors, pinouts, and port mapping tables for a Direct Connect configuration of the Cisco 6100 Series system.

For a list of Direct Connect configuration cables and their respective Cisco part numbers, see "Cabling for a Direct Connect Configuration."

B.1 Multiplexer Chassis Connectors

This section describes multiplexer chassis (MC) connectors and pinouts for the following:

B.1.1 xDSL Connectors

The backplane of the MC contains six Champ connectors which connect to the xTU-C twisted-pair subscriber data interface. This connection can be made by either of the following:

Note For more information on the PSC Champ connector, see the
"Connect the MC to the PSC" section.

Figure B-1 shows connector pin locations for the xDSL Champ connectors. Pin locations are the same for all Champ connectors.

Figure B-1:
xDSL Connector Pin Locations

Note To achieve Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) compliance, you must screw all cables into the backplane and tie wrap Champ connectors (see
"NEBS Compliance Cabling Guidelines" section).

B.1.2 Terminal Block Connector

Use the terminal block connector to wire the MC to the power source on the fuse and alarm panel. For more information on fusing, see one of the following:

The terminal block connectors will accept 14 to 18 American Wire Gauge (AWG) copper solid or stranded wire. Figure B-2 shows the Cisco 6100 Series power terminal block.

Figure B-2: Power Terminal Block

Note See
"Planning for a Cisco 6100 Series System" for calculation tables necessary to determine the fuse amperage for each component that is wired to the fuse and alarm panel. Also, the calculation tables in this appendix will help you determine if the watts in your rack exceed the acceptable levels. If the watts exceed the acceptable levels, you will need to either replan your configuration or use more than one rack to house the Cisco 6100 Series system components.

B.1.3 Alarm Contacts

The Cisco 6100 Series system provides alarm contacts for audible, visual, and E2A alarm connections. These contacts support minor, major, and critical alarm reporting. (Figure B-3 shows the alarm contacts.)

Figure B-3: Alarm Contacts

Table B-1 lists the alarm contact pinouts shown in Figure B-3.

B.2 Port Mapping Tables

This section provides port mapping tables which show the wire pair and chassis port assignments for the following:

B.2.1 Direct Connect with PSC Configuration Port Mapping Tables

Table B-2 maps the MC ports, the PSC ports, and the wire pairs when using the one-to-one cables (see Table 3-2) for a Direct Connect with a PSC configuration. The corresponding cable kit number is CAB-61-014.

Table B-3 maps the MC ports, the PSC ports for two PSCs, and the wire pairs when using the two-to-one cables (see Table 3-3) for a Direct Connect with a PSC configuration. The corresponding cable kit number is CAB-MC128-PSC80. You can use the two-to-one cables to connect one MC to two PSCs for systems using quad-port ATU-C modules.

Table B-4 maps the MC ports, the PSC ports, and the wire pairs when using the two-to-two cables (see Table 3-5) for a Direct Connect with a PSC configuration. The corresponding cable kit number is CAB-PSC-80-REPIN.

You can use the two-to-two cables to clearly associate the mapping between the wire pairs and the MC/PSC ports. These cables attach to the PSC MDF connections (J11 to J14) and the PSC POTS connections (J7 to J10) for systems using dual-port xTU-C modules.

B.2.2 Direct Connect without PSC Configuration Port Mapping Tables

Table B-5 maps the MC ports and the wire pairs when using the two-to-three cables (see Table 3-6) for a Direct Connect without a PSC configuration. The corresponding cable kit number is CAB-MC-3:2-REPIN. You can use the two-to-three cables to connect the MC to the MDF for systems using dual-port DMT-2 ATU-C modules.

Note This cable is not recommended if you plan on expanding your system to quad-port xTU-C modules, which will be available in future releases.

Table B-6 maps the MC ports and the wire pairs when using the three-to-three cables (see Table 3-7) for a Direct Connect without a PSC configuration. The corresponding cable kit number is CAB-MC128-MDF. You can use the three-to-three cables to connect the MC to the MDF for systems using dual-port DMT-2 ATU-C or quad-port xTU-C modules.
