This chapter explains how to diagnose and handle xTU-C modem events generated by the Cisco 6100 Series system. The following information is presented for each of the events:
If none of the actions presented for the event are successful, contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for additional support.
Table 4-1 lists xTU-C modem events and their IDs, definition, severity, and description. A detailed explanation of these events and corrective actions required (if any) is located in subsections in this chapter.

| 1The above event codes apply to all modem types. |
| ID | Event Name | Severity |
|---|---|---|
1 | SAC_OLD_CPE_DETECT | Critical |
The following description appears in the ViewRunner for Windows Event History View dialog box or the ViewRunner for HP OpenView Error Events Browser:
Improper version signature on CPE modemThe CPE detection feature is used to discover CPE gear that is not capable of performing Idle or Session timeouts. During training, the CPE detection feature determines if the CPE equipment can be timer enabled. If the equipment can be timer enabled, training will continue. If the equipment cannot be timer enabled, an alarm is generated in ViewRunner and training will not be successful until the Cisco 660, Cisco 665, or Cisco 675 is updated to at least version 2.01. The line port or modem port will not train successfully until the Cisco 660, 665, or 675 is updated to at least version 2.0.1.
Upgrade the CPE to at least version 2.0.1.
| ID | Event Name | Severity |
|---|---|---|
4 | CCNX_MODEM_DISCONNECTED | Info |
The following description appears in the ViewRunner for Windows Event History View dialog box or the ViewRunner for HP OpenView Error Events Browser:
CPE modem disconnectedThe system will reissue a train command and the session will automatically reestablish when the CPE reconnects.
If the error is temporary there is no need for action. The system will automatically reestablish the connection when the CPE reconnects.
If the problem persists, contact the customer.
| ID | Event Name | Severity |
|---|---|---|
6 | SAD_EVENT_NE_LPR_DEFECT | Minor |
The following description appears in the ViewRunner for Windows Event History View dialog box or the ViewRunner for HP OpenView Error Events Browser:
Near end loss of power defectThere is a momentary loss of power at the central office (CO). This event could also indicate a power supply fault on a Cisco 6100 or a Cisco 6130.
The current sessions will be lost. The sessions will automatically reestablish once the power is restored.
| ID | Event Name | Severity |
|---|---|---|
7 | SAD_EVENT_NE_LPR_FAILURE | Major |
The following description appears in the ViewRunner for Windows Event History View dialog box or the ViewRunner for HP OpenView Error Events Browser:
Near end loss of power failureThis event indicates that a loss of power at the module has been detected in the last 2 consecutive seconds. There could be a momentary loss of power at the central office (CO). This event could also indicate a power supply fault on a Cisco 6100 or a Cisco 6130. This could mean a loss of power at the CO
The current sessions will be lost. The sessions will automatically reestablish once the power is restored.
| ID | Event Name | Severity |
|---|---|---|
8 | SAD_EVENT_NE_LOS_DEFECT | Minor |
The following description appears in the ViewRunner for Windows Event History View dialog box or the ViewRunner for HP OpenView Error Events Browser:
Near end loss of signal defectThe signal between the module and the CPE has been lost. This normally happens when the session is lost.
No action is required. The system will automatically re-establish the session when the CPE is available.
If the problem persists it could indicate that there is a problem with the CPE or the wiring between the module and the CPE.
| ID | Event Name | Severity |
|---|---|---|
9 | SAD_EVENT_NE_LOS_FAILURE | Major |
The following description appears in the ViewRunner for Windows Event History View dialog box or the ViewRunner for HP OpenView Error Events Browser:
Near end loss of signal failureThe signal between the module and the CPE has been lost. This normally happens when the session is lost.
No action is required. The system will automatically re-establish the session when the CPE is available.
If the problem persists it could indicate that there is a problem with the CPE or the wiring between the module and the CPE.
| ID | Event Name | Severity |
|---|---|---|
10 | SAD_EVENT_FE_LOS_DEFECT | Minor |
The following description appears in the ViewRunner for Windows Event History View dialog box or the ViewRunner for HP OpenView Error Events Browser:
Far end loss of signal defectThe signal between the module and the CPE has been lost. This normally happens when the session is lost.
No action is required. The system will automatically re-establish the session when the CPE is available.
If the problem persists it could indicate that there is a problem with the CPE or the wiring between the module and the CPE.
