Cables and Connector Pinouts

This appendix provides pictures of the cables, their function in the Cisco 6100 system, and their corresponding connector pinouts. Part numbers for Digital Off-Hook (DOH) standard and direct connect configuration cables (and other 6100 system components) are listed in the "NetSpeed/Cisco Part Number Conversion" appendix.

A.1 Multiplexer Cables and Connectors

A.1.1 LCC Cables

There are three line concentration chassis (LCC) cables used to connect the LCC to the ATU-C pools in the multiplexer chassis (MC). These cables are specially built by Cisco. The LCC connector on the cables is shown in the following illustration. Refer to the "NetSpeed/Cisco Part Number Conversion" appendix for a listing of DOH standard configuration cables and their respective Cisco part numbers.

A.1.2 POTS Splitter Chassis Cables

POTS cables are used to connect the MC to the POTS splitter chassis (PSC). They are only used when there are no LCCs in the 6100. The following figures show the POTS connector, pinout locations, and tip/ring cable layout for the MC. lists the POTS cables and part numbers. Refer to the "NetSpeed/Cisco Part Number Conversion" appendix for a listing of DOH standard and direct connect configuration cables and their respective Cisco part numbers.

A.1.3 System Management Bus

The 26-pin SCSI cable is used to route the system management bus between the multiplexer chassis (MC) and the LCC. If your system does not include an LCC, this connection will not be used. See the "Connecting the LCC Controller to the MC" section for more information.

A.1.4 Power Terminal Block

The power terminal block is used to connect the multiplexer to the power source on the fuse and alarm panel. See the "Connecting Power from the MC and LCC to the Fuse/Alarm Panel" section for more information on fusing.

A.1.5 Multiplexer Chassis Ground Jumper

The chassis ground jumper is optional depending on site requirements. Chassis ground may be connected to logic ground, or -48RTN may be connected to chassis ground. Normally, no ground jumpering is necessary. The following illustration shows the chassis ground jumper. See the "Grounding the MC and LCCs" section for more information on grounding.

A.1.6 Alarm Contacts

The Cisco 6100 provides alarm contacts for audible, visual, and E2A alarm connections. These connections support minor, major, and critical alarm reporting. The connectors and their associated pinouts are shown in the following illustration. See the "Connecting the Alarm Contacts" section for more information on the alarm interface.

A.2.1 LCC CHAMP Connectors

The rear panel of the LCC provides four CHAMP connectors to transfer data between the LCC and the PSC. Pin locations are the same for all CHAMP connectors on the LCC and are shown in the following illustration. Connector pinouts for each connector are listed in the tables that follow the illustration.

A.2.2 LCC System Management Bus Connector

The LCC system management bus connector receives management information from the multiplexer and then daisy chains that information from LCC to LCC. A.2.3 LCC Power Connections

The power connection on the LCC rear panel is a 4-position terminal block. The illustration that follows shows the connector and the assignments for the 4 positions. See the "Connecting Power from the MC and LCC to the Fuse/Alarm Panel" section for more information on fusing.

A.2.4 LCC Chassis Ground/Logic Ground Jumper

The grounding jumper on the LCC allows you to ground the LCC in one of two ways:

An illustration of this jumper is shown in the following illustration. See the "Grounding the MC and LCCs" section for more information on grounding.


Note Normally, no logic to chassis grounding is necessary.

A.3 POTS Splitter Chassis Connectors

The rear panel of the PSC provides CHAMP connectors to the subscriber line for connection to the Telco PSTN, and supports the ADSL signals. The ADSL signals either go to the multiplexer if there is not an LCC, or to the LCC when present. Pin locations are the same for all CHAMP connectors on the POTS chassis and are shown in the following illustration. Connector pinouts are shown for each set of cables (line, voice, or ADSL) in the tables that follow.


Note This section applies to both DOH standard and direct connect configurations.

This information is a different view of the information presented in other tables and figures in the "Installation - DOH Standard" chapter. For example, Figure A-15 illustrates the connectors and their tip/ring maps as they relate to the PSC. This figure is a subscriber line at the line interface module (LIM) view.
