This chapter provides an overview of the Cisco 677 asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) router. It also describes the general applications available with the Cisco 677.
The Cisco 677 provides home connectivity to an ADSL service provider network over an ADSL/Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) physical layer. The Cisco 677 receives adaptive rates up to 8.032 Mbps downstream and transmits .832 Mbps upstream.
A 10/100BaseT interface is provided for connection to an Ethernet LAN or Ethernet-equipped PC.
Figure 1-1 shows a front view of the Cisco 677 ADSL DMT router.

This section defines the system features of the Cisco 677.
The following features are common to all of the Cisco 677 products:
Table 1-1 describes the function of the connectors and switches on the Cisco 677 back panel. See Figure 1-2 for the location of the connectors.

The Cisco 677 is equipped with 4 MB of Extended Data Out (EDO) DRAM.
The Cisco 677 operates in an ambient temperature environment of 32º to 104ºF (0º to 40ºC) and is stored in an ambient temperature environment of -40ºto 185ºF (-40ºto 85ºC).
