This chapter provides an overview of the Cisco 676 product. It also describes the general applications available with the Cisco 676.
The Cisco 676 is an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) modem for home connectivity to an ADSL service provider network over an ADSL/Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) physical layer. The Cisco 676 receives adaptive rates up to 9.2 Mbps downstream and transmits .8 Mbps upstream .
A 10/100Base-T interface is provided for connection to a Ethernet LAN or Ethernet-equipped PC. The Cisco 676 supports Cisco QuickDial technology for ADSL bandwidth-on-demand.

The following table describes the function of the connectors and switches on the Cisco 676 back panel. See Figure 1-2 for the location of the connectors described in the following table.

ENET | Ethernet Connector. Connects to the Ethernet port on your PC, laptop using the No Hub ethernet cable supplied with your unit, or LAN hub using a straight-through cable. |

WALL | ADSL Connector. Connects to the wall jack. |

The Cisco 676 is equipped with 4MB of Extended Data Out (EDO) DRAM that has a throughput of 60 nanoseconds.
The 676 operates in an ambient temperature environment of 32º to 104ºF (0º to 40ºC) and is stored in an ambient temperature environment of -40ºto 185ºF (-40ºto 85ºC).
