Management cable | RJ-45 to DB9 serial cable. |
If any items you ordered were not delivered, please contact Cisco or your equipment provider. (For pin assignments of connectors used with your Cisco 675, refer to "Cisco 675 Connectors".)
The following hardware is necessary to configure and use the Cisco 675:
Consult the following section to set up the hardware environment for your Cisco 675.
To configure your Cisco 675, follow these steps:
Step 1 Connect the RJ-45 connector on the serial cable to the Cisco 675 management port. See Figure 2-2 for location of management port.
Step 2 Connect the other end of the serial cable to the computer serial port. (If your computer has only a DB25 serial port, a DB9-to-DB25 adapter is needed for connection.)
Step 3 Use the terminal access program from your PC's operating system to access the Cisco 675.
Step 4 Login to CBOS as outlined in the "Logon to the CBOS" section.
For the best access to the Cisco Operating System, use your Terminal Access Program (such as HyperTerminal in Windows) to set your COM protocol to the following settings:

Connecting cables differs depending on whether or not your phone equipment is connected to a POTS splitter.
A POTS splitter separates data signals from voice signals on your phone line. The POTS splitter works by running a separate data line from the voice line, so that the ADSL modem has a dedicated cable for data transmission. Figure 2-3 shows phone equipment connected to a POTS splitter.

Carry out the following steps to cable the Cisco 675:
Step 1 Plug the Power Connector into the back of the unit.
Step 2 Connect the Ethernet cable.
If the computer at the customer premise has only a single Ethernet-equipped computer, attach the Cisco 675 to the computer's Ethernet adapter with the crossover cable provided. Otherwise, connect the Ethernet port for the Cisco 675 to an Ethernet hub via a straight through cable.
Step 3 Connect the ADSL cable to the Cisco 675 and then connect the Cisco 675 to the ADSL line with the telephone cable provided.
The following figure illustrates how to cable the connectors to the rear panel of the Cisco 675 unit for this configuration.

In the EZ-DSL configuration, your phone equipment is not connected to a POTS splitter. Without a POTS Splitter and under certain circumstances, transient noise from the phone can interfere with the modem's operation, and the modem can cause noise on the phone line. To protect this from happening, small microfilters should be connected to the phone lines. If your phone equipment uses EZ-DSL, your configuration looks like the following.

The Cisco 675 comes equipped with an extra phone connector port that you can plug your phone into. This phone port has a built-in microfilter.
The following figure illustrates how to cable the connectors to the rear panel of the Cisco 675 unit for this configuration.

Step 1 Connect power to the Cisco 675 by plugging one end of the power supply into an appropriate electrical outlet and the other end into the power connector on the back of the unit.
Step 2 Once you have powered up the Cisco 675, check that the Power LED is ON.
