This chapter provides an overview of the Cisco 627 asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) modem. It also describes all general applications.
The Cisco 627 ADSL DMT modem is designed for home connectivity to an ADSL service provider network over an ATM 25 Mbits per second (ATM-25) physical layer. The Cisco 627 receives up to a maximum rate of 8.032 Mbps (downstream rate) and transmits up to a maximum rate of .832 Mbps (upstream rate). An ATM-25 interface provides a connection to either a customer premises equipment (CPE) router or an ATM-25-equipped PC.
Figure 1-1 illustrates the Cisco 627 ADSL DMT modem.

The following lists define the Cisco 627 product features.
Table 1-1 describes the function of the connectors and switches on the Cisco 627 back panel. See Figure 1-2 for the location of the connectors described in Table 1-1.

The Cisco 627 comes with 2 MB of Extended Data Out (EDO) DRAM.
