Using Cable Management on the Cisco 6400 Universal Access Concentrator

September 15, 1999

This document describes how to use cable management brackets and wire restrains to manage NSP and NRP cables on the Cisco 6400 universal access concentrator (UAC). Proper use of the brackets and restraints allows rapid replacement of the blower assembly. Use this document in conjunction with the Cisco 6400 UAC Hardware Installation and Maintenance Guide.

Installing the Cable Management Brackets and Restraints

    1. Unscrew and remove the old brackets.

    2. Install the new brackets. Put the caution label in the indentation and the cable routing diagram to the right of the caution label.

    3. Unscrew the tapping screw at the top of the NRP or the NSP and attach the wire restraints.

    4. Pull an NSP or NRP cable across the wire restraint and bend the restraint upwards to trap the wire.

    5. Tread the cable through the cable bracket, creating a 20 inch (or larger) service loop, as shown in the cable routing diagram.

IMPORTANT: A minimum 20-inch loop is critical to hot swapping the blower.

Replacing the Blower

    1. Detach the new brackets.

    2. Fold the loaded brackets to either side of the 6400 chassis, leaving the cables attached. The 20 inch service loop will allow you to pull the cables out of the way of the blower.

    3. Remove the two screws on the front of the blower module and carefully slide the blower out of the chassis.

    4. Slide the new blower module in until the rear connector engages. Refasten the screws that secure the blower module to the chassis.

    5. Reattach the loaded cable brackets, re-establishing the service loops.
