Introduction
The Cisco 6260 is a multiservice DSL access concentrator which provides a fully redundant NEBS and ETSI platform with the capability to support up to 240 DSL modems per shelf (120 using 4-port line cards) and up to 3120 ports per system (1560 using 4-port line cards) using advanced, fair-service subtending capabilities.
The Cisco 6260 Digital Subscriber Line Manager (CDM) uses Cisco Element Management Framework (CEMF) to provide element management to enable service providers to plan, provision, and monitor network services on the Cisco 6260.
With the CDM you can:
- Manually deploy the CDM chassis (NI2) in the management system before installation.
- Preprovision and configure the chassis with line cards before they are inserted, then setup the system to automatically detect their presence and begin management after physical installation.
- Commission a deployed chassis to detect the line cards that are equipped or provisioned.
- Use the auto discovery feature to automatically discover new 6260 devices.
- Use maps that have been automatically constructed by the management system to show a graphical user interface (GUI) representation of the CDM components.
- Access FCAPS functionality which is provided on the CDM via SNMP. The Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, and Security (FCAPS) information is available via simple tabbed screen boxes within the CDM application.
- View alarms generated by the CDM, as color-coded icons on the network maps.
- Create Subscriber and Traffic Descriptor profiles, which can be applied to lines and connections.
- Create and manage subscribers.
- Create and manage PVCs and soft PVCs
- Analyze the performance statistics of the trunk port using graphical interfaces.
The CDM offers many benefits:
- Requires minimal user knowledge of the underlying IOS system and SNMP commands.
- Provides simple, quick and flexible installation alternatives, including pre-deployment GUI wizard and auto-discovery.
- Supports configuration of QoS and Service definitions in accordance with service provider policies and products.
- Reduces the opportunity for error in establishing service parameters through the use of profiles.
- Minimizes setup time and cost for each Cisco 6260.
- Minimizes connection installation time providing rapid service availability to new subscribers.
- Minimizes downtime via assurance tools for fault determination and pro-active troubleshooting.
- Provides the capability to achieve Telephony Scale Data Networking (TSDN) deployments.
