Installing the PA-MC-2T3+ Interface Cables

This chapter describes the procedure for attaching 75-ohm 734A coaxial cables between the PA-MC-2T3+ port adapter and your external 2T3+ (DS3) equipment. To continue your PA-MC-2T3+ port adapter installation, you must install the port adapter cables. The instructions that follow apply to all supported platforms.

Use only 75-ohm 734A coaxial cables for these connections. (For specific cable requirements and options, see the "Cables and Connectors" section of the "Overview" chapter.)

Note We strongly recommend that you fasten together your transmit and receive cables along their entire length, as shown in Figure 1-3. Doing so reduces the effects of EMI. You can use standard heat-activated shrink tubing or cable ties for this purpose.

You can also use a 75-ohm coaxial cable pair that is available from Cisco Systems (as Product Number CAB-ATM-DS3/E3).

Each T3 link requires separate receive and transmit connections to your external T3 equipment.

Connect the 75-ohm coaxial cables to the PA-MC-2T3+ port adapter as follows:

Step 1 Attach the 75-ohm coaxial cables directly to the BNC ports on the PA-MC-2T3+ port adapter. Attach one end of a cable to the port labeled TX and one end of a second cable to the port labeled RX. (See Figure 5-1.)

Caution To prevent system problems and to maintain the proper cable connection sequences, connect the RX and TX ports on your PA-MC-2T3+ port adapter as indicated in Step 2.

Step 2 Attach the network ends of your two 75-ohm coaxial cables to your external T3 equipment as follows:

This completes the procedure for 75-ohm coaxial cable attachment on PA-MC-2T3+ port adapters. Proceed to the "Configuring the PA-MC-2T3+" chapter to configure the interfaces on the PA-MC-2T3+ port adapter.
