This section discusses the objectives, audience, organization, and conventions of the LightStream 1010 ATM Switch Command Reference publication.

This publication is intended as a standalone document for experienced network administrators who will be configuring and maintaining switches and would like to reference commands. For less-experienced users who need to understand the tasks as well as the commands, it is intended as a companion guide to the LightStream 1010 ATM Switch Software Configuration Guide.
This publication provides an in-depth description of the commands necessary for configuring and maintaining your LightStream 1010 Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switch. It describes tasks only in the context of using a particular command; it does not describe how the tasks interrelate nor does it provide comprehensive configuration examples.You can use this publication as a standalone reference manual or in conjunction with the LightStream 1010 ATM Switch Software Configuration Guide and the LightStream 1010 ATM Switch ASP Installation Guide.
Not all of the debug commands are included in this publication. For a complete guide to the debug commands, refer to the Router Products Debug Command Reference publication.
Several Cisco IOS commands are not currently supported in the LightStream 1010 ATM switch environment. In this document these commands are identified with a note indicating that the command or some of its parameters might not function as expected.
Table 1 shows the command names that have changed from Cisco IOS Release 11.2 to 11.3.

This document is organized alphabetically. Each chapter covers all commands that start with a particular letter, with the exception of the following chapters:
Command descriptions use the following conventions (see Figure 1 for an example):
| boldface font | Commands and keywords are in boldface. |
| italic font | Arguments for which you supply values are in italics. In contexts that do not allow italics, arguments are enclosed in angle brackets (< >). |
| [ ] | Elements in square brackets are optional. |
| { x | y | z } | Required alternative keywords are grouped in braces and separated by vertical bars. |
| [ x | y | z ] | Optional alternative keywords are grouped in brackets and separated by vertical bars. |
| string | A nonquoted set of characters. Do not use quotation marks around the string, otherwise the string will include the quotation marks. |
Screen examples use the following conventions:
