About This Guide

This section describes who should read this guide, how it is organized, and the document conventions of the LightStream 1010 ATM Switch Software Configuration Guide.

Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Therefore, it might be more up to date than printed documentation. To order additional copies of the Documentation CD-ROM, contact your local sales representative or call customer service. Who Should Read This Guide

This publication is intended as a standalone document for experienced network administrators who are responsible for configuring and maintaining the LightStream 1010 ATM switch.

Chapter 3	Configuring Terminal Lines and Modem Support	Contains steps used to configure lines and terminal settings.
Chapter 4	Initially Configuring the LightStream 1010 ATM Switch	Contains the initial configuration of the LightStream 1010 ATM switch.
Chapter 5	Configuring System Management Functions	Contains the basic tasks needed to manage the general system features of the LightStream 1010 ATM switch.
Chapter 6	Configuring Virtual Connections	Describes the configuration of LightStream 1010 ATM switch virtual circuits (VC).

Chapter 15	Configuring Special Features	Describes special features added to the LightStream 1010 switch configuration software. These features will not be used by most LightStream 1010 ATM switch users.
Chapter 16	Configuring Port Adapter Module Interfaces	Describes the individual steps required to configure the individual port adapter modules.
Chapter 17	Loading System Images, Software Images, and Configuration Files	Includes procedures for updating the LightStream 1010 switch software.
Appendix A	Configuration Worksheets	Includes checklists, instructions, examples, and blank worksheets used for the initial installation and subsequent maintenance of the switch.
Appendix B	LightStream 1010 MIB Information	Describes the Cisco Systems private, or local, Management Information Base (MIB) for the LightStream 1010 ATM switch.
Appendix C	Resolving Error Messages	Lists and describes system error messages for the LightStream 1010 ATM switch.

Document Conventions

Screen displays use the following convention:

^	The symbol ^ represents the key labeled Control---for example, the key combination ^D in a screen display means hold down the Control key while you press the D key.

Command descriptions use the following conventions:

boldface font	Commands and keywords are in boldface.
italic font	Arguments for which you supply values are in italics.
[      ]	Elements in square brackets are optional.
{x | y | z}	Alternative keywords are grouped in braces and separated by vertical bars.

Examples use the following conventions:

screen font	Terminal sessions and information the system displays are in screen font.
boldface screen font	Information you must enter is in boldface screen font.
<      >	Nonprinting characters, such as passwords are in angle brackets.
[      ]	Default responses to system prompts are in square brackets.

Notes, examples, cautions, and warnings use the following conventions:

Note	Means reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to material not covered in the publication.
	This pointer highlights an important line of text in an example.
	Caution      Means reader be careful. In this situation, you might do something that could result in equipment damage or loss of data.
