This chapter describes procedures used to confirm that the ATM switch PAMs are operational and that initial configuration procedures were successful. It includes the following sections:
Your PAM went through extensive testing and burn-in before leaving the factory; however, if your system appears to have problems starting up, use the information in this section to help isolate the cause. Problems with the initial startup are most likely caused by an ASP, CM, PAM, or power supply that has become dislodged from the backplane or chassis power connector.
This chapter covers only troubleshooting the PAM. Refer to the following documents to troubleshoot the LightStream 1010 ATM switch chassis installation and ATM switch processor (ASP):
When the troubleshooting procedures in these documents have been completed, continue with the following PAM troubleshooting steps in the following sections:
If each of these conditions is met, the hardware installation is complete, and you should proceed to the section "Starting the System" in the LightStream 1010 ATM Switch Hardware Installation Guide or Catalyst 5000 Series Installation Guide. If the startup sequence fails before these conditions are met, use the procedures in this chapter to isolate and, if possible, resolve the problem. If you are unable to easily solve the problem, contact a customer service representative for assistance and further instructions. Before you call, have the following information ready to help your service provider assist you as quickly as possible:

If a failure occurs, an "F" is inserted instead of the period (.); the period (.) indicates that the test passed. For example, in Figure 10-1, power-supply two (PS2) failed the power-on diagnostics test.
Figure 10-2 is a flowchart to help you determine which component of your LightStream 1010 might have malfunctioned.
See the following sections in each of the individual port adapter module chapters for LED descriptions:

Table 10-1 describes commands used to confirm the current hardware, software, and interfaces for the LightStream 1010.
