Catalyst 8540 MSR and CSR route processor (product number C8540 MSR/CSR RP) ROMMON image release 12.0(4.6)W5(13)
This document describes the features and caveats for ROM monitor (ROMMON) functional image release, 12.0(4.6)W5(13), for the route processors used with the Catalyst 8540 MSR and CSR.
This version of the route processor ROMMON image fixes a problem that occurs when the system is configured to autoboot, the configuration register is set to 0x2102, and the secondary route processor crashes during autoboot. This problem is listed in the "Caveats" section later in this release note.
This release note includes the following sections:
The Catalyst 8540 MSR and CSR provide switched connections to individual workstations, servers, LAN segments, and other switches and routers using fiber-optic, unshielded twisted-pair (UTP), and coaxial cable.
Slots 4 and 8 of the Catalyst 8540 MSR and CSR chassis are occupied by the dual, field-replaceable route processors, which perform central processing functions and provide redundancy.
This section describes the process you use to determine the existing ROMMON functional image version installed on your route processor.
To display the functional image version in a route processor, use the following command in privileged EXEC mode:

The following example shows the ROMMON functional image information for the route processor in slot 4:

For detailed ROMMON image upgrade instructions, see the "Maintaining Functional Images" section in the "Managing Configuration Files, System Images, and Functional Images" chapter of the ATM Switch Router Software Configuration Guide or the Catalyst 8500 CSR Software Feature & Configuration Guide.
The following example shows the messages that appear when reprogramming the ROMMON functional image:

![]() | Caution FPGA and ROMMON functional image download can not be reverted back once the download is started. Do not interrupt the download procedure. Wait until the download is complete before attempting any commands on the switch. Check file sizes before and after the download. A failure during reprogramming can result in the card being unusable. |

For service and support for a product purchased directly from Cisco, use CCO.
Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.
CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
You can access CCO in the following ways:
For a copy of CCO's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), contact cco-help@cisco.com. For additional information, contact cco-team@cisco.com.
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Therefore, it might be more current than printed documentation. To order additional copies of the Documentation CD-ROM, contact your local sales representative or call customer service. The CD-ROM package is available as a single package or as an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco documentation on the World Wide Web at http://www.cisco.com, http://www-china.cisco.com, or http://www-europe.cisco.com.
If you are reading Cisco product documentation on the World Wide Web, you can submit comments electronically. Click Feedback in the toolbar and select Documentation. After you complete the form, click Submit to send it to Cisco. We appreciate your comments.
