Uninstalling the Client and Manually Installing the Driver for Windows NT

Before installing a new version of the Windows NT VPN 5000 Client, you must first uninstall any older versions of the VPN Client.

Uninstalling the Program

The Unwise program, which is included with the VPN 5000 Client (located in the IntraPort Client folder), should be used to uninstall the Client. If for some reason there is no Unwise program, the Windows uninstaller (under Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) can be used.

Uninstalling the Driver

The Unwise program included with the Windows NT client versions 3.x and greater automatically removes the driver.

Neither the Unwise program for Windows NT client version 2.x, nor the Windows uninstaller program automatically uninstalls the VPN driver. If your client is version 2.x, you must remove it yourself.

To remove the driver manually:

Step 1 From the Start menu, select Control Panel > Network and click on the Protocols tab.

Step 2 Select the Compatible Systems VPN Transport driver.

Step 3 Click the Remove button.

Step 4 Reboot the computer when prompted.

Now you can install the client. See the "Installing the Client for Windows NT" section for instructions.

Manually Installing the Windows NT Network Driver

The Windows NT VPN 5000 Client setup program automatically launches a macro that installs the IntraPort VPN Access Server network driver.

The Windows NT system requires that an IntraPort network driver be installed before the VPN 5000 Client will work.

If the macro fails for any reason, use the following instructions to manually install the driver.

Step 1 Install Windows NT VPN 5000 Client software using the "Installing the Client for Windows NT" section.

Step 2 Log on to the system as the administrator, or as a user with administrator privileges.

Step 3 From the Start menu, select Control Panel > Network and click the Protocols tab.

Step 4 Click Add.

Select Network Protocol dialog box displays.

Step 5 Click the Have Disk button.

Step 6 Enter the path to the folder you copied or downloaded the files to earlier, for example, C:\temp.

Step 7 Click OK.

Step 8 When the Select OEM Option dialog box displays, highlight Cisco Systems VPN Intermediate Driver.

Step 9 Click OK to begin installing the driver.

Step 10 After the driver is installed, click Close to exit from the Network Control Panel.

The system displays a message letting you know that your machine needs to be restarted.

Step 11 Click Now.
