This chapter describes how to install or upgrade the software and how to download or back up a text configuration file.
The VPN 5002 and VPN 5008 concentrators use the same software file. You can download the software using TFTP using the concentrator as a TFTP server or as a TFTP client. The following sections describe both methods.
To download the software, follow these steps.
tftp enable [timeout] [TFTP_client_IP_address]
Where:
timeout is the amount of time in seconds that TFTP is enabled after entering the command. The default is 60 seconds.
TFTP_client_IP_address is the IP address allowed to connect with TFTP to the concentrator. If you used Telnet to enter this command, the default is the Telnet host IP address. You must enter a value if you are using a console connected directly to the Console port.
Step 2 Use TFTP to transfer the software file in binary mode before the tftp enable command times out.
The software file name can be any name.
To download the software from a TFTP server, follow these steps:
Step 2 On the concentrator, enter:
tftp get code TFTP_server_IP_address filename
Instead of using the command line, you can manually edit a text file with the appropriate configuration commands and download it to the system using TFTP. To create your initial configuration file, you might want to use the command line and copy the resulting file to use it as a template. You can also back up the configuration file using TFTP in case of a failure.
The configuration file can be up to 65,500 characters long.
The configuration file syntax matches the command line syntax; however, without the built-in syntax checker the command line offers, you have to be careful with the syntax in your file.
See the "Text File Formatting" section for a detailed description of the text file format.
You can copy the configuration file, called vpn5002_8.cfg, using the concentrator as a TFTP server or as a TFTP client. The following sections describe both methods.
To download or upload the configuration, follow these steps:
tftp enable [timeout] [TFTP_client_IP_address]
Where:
timeout is the amount of time in seconds that TFTP is enabled after entering the command. The default is 60 seconds.
TFTP_client_IP_address is the IP address allowed to connect with TFTP to the concentrator. If you used Telnet to enter this command, the default is the Telnet host IP address. You must enter a value if you are using a console connected directly to the Console port.
Step 2 Use TFTP to copy the configuration file in ASCII mode before the tftp enable command times out.
To download or upload the configuration to or from a TFTP server, follow these steps:
The file name must be vpn5002_8.cfg.
Step 2 On the concentrator, enter:
tftp {get | put} config TFTP_server_IP_address filename
Where:
get downloads the file from the tftpboot directory.
put uploads the file to the tftpboot directory.
