Configuring IPX Routing

Configuring IPX Routing

This chapter describes how to configure IPX routing for each interface. To configure IPX filters, see the IPX and IPX Filter sections in the Cisco VPN 5000 Concentrator Series Command Reference Guide.

Note   For commands that require the interface slot and port, slot 0 is the far left slot for the VPN 5008 chassis, and the top slot for the VPN 5002 chassis. Ports are numbered starting with 0, so for a module with one port, the port is 0.

Enabling Routing

To turn on routing, follow these steps. For Ethernet and PPP connections, turning on routing is usually all that is required. For other options, see the IPX section in the Cisco VPN 5000 Concentrator Series Command Reference Guide.

Command Purpose

Step 1

configure IPX {Ethernet | WAN}
slot:port

Identifies the port for which you want to enable routing.

Step 2

Mode = Routed

Turns on routing.

Configuring IPX for Frame Relay

To run IPX over a Frame Relay link, follow these steps:

Command Purpose

Step 1

configure IPX WAN slot:port

Specifies the port for which you want to enable IPX routing.

Step 2

Mode = Routed

Turns on routing.

Step 3

Numbered = On

Specifies that the interface has a network number.

Step 4

Net = Network_Number

Network_Number is a hexadecimal number between 1 and FFFFFFFE assigned to the IPX network. Be sure to use the same number for the other end of the Frame Relay link.
