Features and Specifications

This chapter describes the Cisco VPN 5008 concentrator hardware features and specifications.

Concentrator Feat ures

Table 3-1 lists the basic features of the VPN 5008 concentrator.

Feature Description

8 slots for modules

Combine hot-swappable modules in the chassis for multiple physical connections and cumulative bandwidth and processor power. The concentrator pools module processing even if you are not using the physical interface. See the Cisco VPN 5002 and 5008 Module Hardware Guide for more information about each module.

Control, stora ge, and processing by module in slot 0

The module in the far left slot (slot 0) provides console port access for the entire chassis and modules, Fla sh memory storage for the software, and, like all other modules, powerful processors for all of the platform functions.

Dual redundant AC power supplies

Hot-swappable supplies that can be set to 115 VAC or 230 VAC.

Optional -48 VDC power supplies

Hot-swappable supplies that include alarm connectors for an external alarm device.

Warning This unit might have more than one power supply connection. All connections need to be removed to de-energize the unit.

Console Ca ble

The supplied DB-25 male to DB-25 female straight-through cable follows the standard RS-232C pinouts. See the "Connecting the Console Cable" section for more information about using the console cable. To create your own cable, use the pinouts in Table 3-5.
