Dial Plan Provisioning Tool

Dial Plan Provisioning Tool

This chapter provides a description of the Dial Plan Provisioning (DPP) tool and how to create the dial plan text file used as input.

The DPP tool is a Java application that can be run from either the DOS command line using a batch file or via a GUI that uses a Tool Command Language (TCL) interface. In this version, Microsoft Access is used to store the data while it is being processed by the DPP application.

3.1 Purpose

The DPP application is a utility that generates data that is required by the telephony controller by converting the user's input file (dial plan) into a format that can be used by the telephony controller software. This dial plan is used to generate tables that are output to two files:

For more information about these output files, see "Using the Dial Plan."

These files are sent to the configuration tool where their format is converted and placed in the data repository.

The flow of data from the DPP input is shown in Figure 3-1.

3.2 DPP Input Files

Your first task is to create your dial plan that will be imported into the telephony controller. Figure 3-2 shows signaling for a dual telephony controller configuration.

3.2.1 Dial Plan

As an example, we provide a dial plan that represents a simple network. Follow the procedure described below to create the text file for this dial plan. The example dial plan is very short and the text file was created using WordPad.

Step 1 Open any text editor.

Click on the Start menu, select Programs, Accessories, and then WordPad when using Windows 95 or Windows NT. A blank WordPad document displays.

Step 2 Type CUSTOMER_ID = TR01 on the first line of the blank document and press Enter.

The customer ID must match the VNET ID associated with the signal path you chose to use that is configured on the telephony controller. (You configured this signal path using the configuration tool.) The VNET ID is located in the Signal Path properties window in the configuration tool.

Step 3 Type VERSION = 0 on the next line of the document and press Enter.

The version number allows you to maintain a history of edits to your dial plans. Each time you edit a dial plan, give it a new version number. The version number field supports up to 2 digits.

Step 4 Type a {at the beginning of the next line and press Enter.

This open bracket indicates that the number plan is beginning.

Step 5 Press the Tab key and type TRUNKS {and press Enter.

No information needs to be entered here. This feature is now obsolete.

Step 6 Press the Tab key and type} and press Enter.

This indicates that this is the end of the trunk list.

This indicates the end of the incoming A-number.

Step 10 Press the Tab key twice and type B_NUMBER {and press Enter.

This indicates the start of your incoming B-number entries.

Step 11 Press Enter and then the Tab key twice and type } and press Enter.

This indicates the end of your incoming B-number entries.

Step 12 Press the Tab key once and type } and press Enter.

This indicates the end of your incoming numbering plan.

Step 13 Press the Tab key and type NUMBERING_PLAN_OUTGOING { and press Enter.

Step 14 Press the Tab key twice and type A_NUMBER {and press Enter.

This indicates the start of your outgoing A-number entries.

Step 15 Press Enter and then the Tab key twice and type } and press Enter.

This indicates the end of your outgoing A-number entries.

Step 16 Press the Tab key twice and type B_NUMBER {and press Enter.

This indicates the start of your outgoing B-number entries.

Step 17 Press the Tab key three times and type the following lines.

Press enter at the end of each line and tab over three times at the start of each line.

523xxxx, IPROUTE (1,SC-1);
722xxxx, IPROUTE (1,SC-2);

Step 18 Press the Tab key twice, type} and press Enter.

3.2.2 Save Your Dial Plan

Step 1 After you complete Step 20 under "Dial Plan," click on the File menu, select Save, type training.txt, and select Text Format in the Save As Type list box.

This saves your number plan as a text file. (See Figure 3-4.)

Caution
Be sure to save your file as a text only file, not rich text format or any specific word processor format.

TimeSaver Save your dial plan text file so that you can modify it when you have to change your dial plan rather than having to rewrite it.
