This chapter describes the procedure to configure SNMP agents and managers.
From the SNMP tab you can configure the SNMP Agent and Managers for your telephony controller components. The SNMP Manager runs on SNMP manager software (for example, the HP OpenView software).
After you have selected a TPx component to work with, the SNMP tab appears to the right of the Lines tab, followed by tabs for cards, traffic paths, and signal paths. The SNMP tab shows two panels, SNMP Agent and SNMP Manager. (See Figure 11-1.)

When you right-click with the cursor on either panel, a popup menu appears. (See Figure 11-2.)

Only the options available for the panel your cursor is in will be active.
One SNMP Agent is created for each telephony controller. The SNMP Agent panel has a text box for the Read Community String and one for the Write Community String.
The defaults are public for read and write for write. These strings cannot be empty.
To change either community string, right-click with your cursor in this panel and select Modify Agent from the popup menu. Enter the new string and click on OK. A Cancel button is available if you want to terminate this action.
The SNMP Agent determines what type of trap is transmitted and configures the SNMP managers.
You will have at least one SNMP manager for a given TPx component that you can configure. You can set a manager ID and name and a TransPath ID. The gateway address is always 0. If you have already created managers, they will be displayed in the drop-down list in the dialog box. The first option in this list is (choose an SNMP Manager).
To add or remove managers, right-click in the SNMP Manager panel and select Add Manager or Remove Manager.
You will need to enter an IP address for any manager you add. Enter the IP address of the server the SNMP software resides on. (See Figure 11-3.)

You can delete a manager by selecting it from the drop-down list and clicking on OK.
