Installation

This chapter describes procedure for installing the Cisco Software Release 4 telephony controller configuration tool application.

The installer should be familiar with UNIX commands, Windows NT servers, and basic network administration activities.

2.1 Installation Checklist

Before you install the Cisco Software Release 4 telephony controller configuration tool, use this checklist to ensure you have everything you need for a smooth installation. Any deviation from the specified hardware and software requirements could degrade the performance of the configuration tool or prevent it from operating.

Note If you have a previous version of the configuration tool installed, you must uninstall it before you install this new version. (See the "Uninstall Previous Version of Configuration Tool" section for more information.)

2.2 Install Configuration Tool

Step 1 Close the Orbix Web server by closing the DOS windows: C:\Lightspeed\OrbixWeb\bin\orbixd.exe, C:\Lightspeed\OrbixNames\bin\ns.exe, and the window used to run server.bat. Close the Orbix Web server first:

Step 2 Insert the Configuration Tool CD-ROM. From the Start menu select Run. Type drive:\Setup; this invokes the InstallShield setup. (InstallShield is an installation toolkit developed by InstallShield Software Corporation.)

Follow the instructions on your screen.

Step 3 Insert the Configuration Tool - Utilities CD-ROM. From the Start menu select Run. Type cd drive:\Setup; this invokes the InstallShield setup. This CD installs the Java and Orbix applications.

Follow the instructions on your screen.

2.3 Configure Servers

If this is the first time you have installed the Configuration Tool, you now need to set up your Web server (C:\Eng\TransPath) and FTP server (C:\Turnover\install).

Note If you are performing an upgrade or restoring after a failure, you only need to complete Steps 4 and 5 because your ODBC data source, WWW server, and FTP server are already configured.

Step 1 Copy the default database:

Step 2 Configure the ODBC data source:

Step 3 Configure Microsoft Internet Server (first the WWW server, then the FTP server):

Step 4 Edit the HTML Web page:

Step 5 Edit the server.bat file:

Note It may be necessary to add the full path of the Java binary to the last line to ensure \tab the correct version of Java is started. For example: C:\Lightspeed\Java\bin\java LightSpeedCM.CMLightSpeedServer %IT_LOCAL_HOST% 8000 %DATASOURCE% %LS_CONFIG_PATH%\TransPathCM\database 20.

2.4 Modify Files

Your configuration is installed with a basic default database that you will modify as you configure your Cisco Software Release 4 telephony controller. This original database file should be saved before you begin your configuration:

To use your system's server name, you will need to modify two files, the default.html and server.bat, from their default settings.

2.5 Upgrade Software

The following information provides steps to follow to upgrade your software when a new version is released. When you install an upgrade, first you uninstall the Cisco Software Release 4 telephony controller configuration tool; then you upgrade the data stored in your database.

2.5.1 Uninstall Previous Version of Configuration Tool

Note Before you uninstall the configuration tool, make a backup of the database lpt.mdb in the C:\Lightspeed\TransPathCM\database and rename it.

To uninstall the configuration tool, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Close the DOS prompts and the Orbix Web server by pressing Ctrl-c and answering Yes to all screen prompts.

Step 2 Uninstall the Configuration Tool.

Step 3 Uninstall the configuration tool utilities.

If you are installing an upgrade, after you uninstall the Cisco Software Release 4 telephony controller configuration tool, you will want to have the configuration tool perform a cold start.

Step 1 Go to directory C:\Lightspeed\OrbixWeb\config\Naming Repository.

Step 2 Delete the files NC-0 and root.

2.5.2 Migrate Database

After you uninstall the Cisco Software Release 4 telephony controller configuration tool, you upgrade the data stored in your database. The database files are in the directory Lightspeed/TransPathCM/database.

Before you migrate your database:

Now you are ready to migrate your database. You will use a program located in Lightspeed/TransPathCM/MigrateDB.

If you are upgrading your version of a VSC, you will run a batch file.

Caution Any time you perform an upgrade, watch the screen as your DOS command executes. If you see an error message (for example, No more files will be processed, consult your technical help), stop and copy the screen, then report all the information to your technical help. If you see the message Can't open any more tables, you can re-run the Migrate script.

Step 1 Go to the DOS prompt.

Step 2 Change directory to C:\Lightspeed\TransPathCM\MigrateDB.

Step 3 Click on migrate.bat and press Enter.

Step 4 Exit the migrate program.

Note If you are performing system maintenance, it is a good idea to make a backup copy of your existing database before making any changes.
