Maintenance Procedures

7.1 The Backups

The program is located in the /opt/TransPath/local directory. Included with TransPath system is a backup utility. This program may be used to make full or partial backups.

Full

Backup saves the entire TransPath system directory tree as it exists at the time of backup. This selection saves a complete image of the TransPath system that can be fully restored in the future. This process may take up to an hour.

Partial

backup saves the directories named: data, etc, lib, local, and var/log. See "Failover Subsystem," for more information about these directories and their purposes. This option saves files that change rapidly or may exist for only short periods of time. This process typically takes less than ten minutes.

Partial Incremental backups are currently not supported.

7.1.1 Backing up to Tape

Step 1 Start the utility by entering the following:

Only users in the TransPath system group can read files for backup.

Step 2 The utility presents the following Backup Menu:

Step 3 To select the backup mode, type the single character preceding the menu item and then press the <Enter> key.

7.1.2 Installation and Configuration Instructions

The backed utility automatically configured for a standard TransPath system site. However, a system administrator may need to modify the following variables in the file:

tape_device

-the backup device.

7.2 Restoring From Tape

If you experience a failure that requires backup files to be restored, it is important that you first contact the Cisco Systems Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for specific instructions. Performing the restore process can result in key files being overwritten and possibly impact call processing.
