About This Manual
This guide provides instructions to operate the TransPath system on a Sun Ultra Enterprise 450 server running Solaris 2.5.1. This should be used as a guide for operation on a single or dual Sun configuration.
Included in this guide is information on the operation of the TransPath system. This includes advanced topics related to systems operation, signal channel operation, status alarm management, platform utilities, maintenance, system management, failover, system administration, and software support procedures. It also includes a guide to using the TransPath System Configuration Tool, the interface between the end user and the database files.
This guide is intended for two different audiences: The System Administrator and the operator. The System Administrator is required to manage the high end host administrative functions, such as maintaining parameters, granting group and user IDs, and all TransPath system directories.
The operators should be familiar with telecommunication protocols, basic computer software operation, computer terminology and concepts, a hierarchical file system, common UNIX shell commands, log files and system configurations.
This Guide is divided into the following sections:
- "Overview of the TransPath System" briefly describes the TransPath system, a signaling protocol converter.
- "Host Computer Systems Operation" describes how to start up and stop the TransPath system. This section also describes the function of the Process Manager, and starting and stopping dependent processes.
- "Managing I/O Signal Channels" describes how to retrieve and modify I/O signal channel attributes, and how to retrieve alarms and errors.
- "Managing Status Alarms" addresses advanced TransPath system active, passive, and monitored management processes, external system processes and starting and stopping processes.
- "Using Platform Utilities and Tools" deals with signal channel tracing, log file rotation, and disk space utilization.
- "Provisioning the Platform" describes the configuration library, platform and network element identification.
- "Maintenance Procedures" identifies the tape backup procedures, menu items, installation and configuration instructions, and other related provisioning procedures.
- "System Management" deals with Database and Accounting Management issues.
- "Failover Subsystem" describes how the failover system is incorporated into the TransPath system.
- Chapter 10, "System Administration" deals with adding and deleting users from the system, and other Superuser processes.
- "Product Support Procedures" deals with customer support issues.
- "Data Dictionary and Glossary" describes the specifications, formats, and relationships for the user-configurable data files associated with the TransPath system.
- "MML Commands" provides MML command definitions for end users.
- "Alarm Support Diagrams" uses flowchart diagrams to illustrate how the alarms function.
- "Reference Materials" lists reference publications.
- "Configuration Properties," describes the specifications for the user-configurable
properties.dat files associated with the TransPath system.
