These release notes describe caveats for the Cisco MC3810 Visual Configuration Tool (VCT), which is available in the mc3810vct.tar file on Cisco Connection Online.
These release notes discuss the following topics:
The following list describes the caveats for the Cisco MC3810 Visual Configuration Tool:
- Occasionally the PageView shrinks (you won't be able to see the full tab or page view when some of the commands are executed). WorkAround: If this happens, select the first tab General from the Pageview, and the PageView will return to normal. Or, you can Refresh the screen using the Refresh option under the View menu. [CSCdj55999]
- If you keep entering larger values in the Filter entry box, an error saying "integer value too large" Workaround: The filter string should not exceed 255 characters (the UNIX file name limit). [CSCdj56942]
- No syntax checking is implemented for the GroupName entry box. Workaround: The Group Name should not exceed 255 characters (Unix file name limit). [CSCdj56948]
- Global checking is enabled even when the command is negated. If the user downloads or reads in a configuration from a file, or switches from text mode to the GUI, mode and the command existed before entering GUI mode, then that command cannot be disabled. It can only be negated.
- Because the command can only be negated, global checking will occur on these commands and a warning message will be displayed if any of the mandatory parameters are missing for that particular command. Workaround: You can switch to text mode to disable the command by attaching the prefix "no" to the command if you do not want to specify all the parameters for a particular command. [CSCdj57006]
- Selecting a .grp file for ReadConfig is allowed. It does not display any error indicating that a group file rather than a config file was selected. Furthermore, in Text Mode, the group file is subsequently displayed. However, in GUI Mode, data from a previously displayed configuration is still present (for example, a Read Config on a valid configuration file followed by a Read Config of a group file still shows partial data for the original config file.) Workaround: Make sure to select a valid configuration file again. [CSCdj57619]
- Immediately following a successful upload, the command sh run on the router does not execute because the NVRAM is in use and CPU utilization climbs up. Workaround: You can set snmp priority to low by executing the command snmp-server priority low. [CSCdj58395]
- The tool will accept 16 as a valid choice for E1 timeslot even if CAS is enabled. [CSCdj58442]
Note Currently the tool does not do semantic checking across commands to find whether cas has been enabled or not. Workaround: Avoid giving the timeslot value 16 for the E1 controller if cas is turned on.
- The following FXO and FSX configuration options are listed in the Configuration Folder for voice ports when they really are not available:
- These options should be removed because they only apply to E&M ports. [CSCdj59264]
- No data is shown for voice port options set to default values. The VCT does not support showing default values for all items. Workaround: Refer to the Cisco IOS documentation for the correct default. [CSCdj59262]
- Messages such as "unknown host" appear in the terminal screen instead of showing up in the window. Some of the messages come from the SNMP library which are not piped to the windows by the VCT. There is no known workaround.[CSCdj59612]
- ATM commands appear for non-ATM interfaces. There is no semantic checking in this release. Workaround: You need to know which interfaces support ATM commands. [CSCdj59851]
- The ATM tab for a voice over ATM dial-peer offers invalid options (for example, ethernet0, fr-atm-interworking). It should only offer serial interfaces. Workaround: Select an invalid interface option plus out-of-range numbers in string and then upload . The download will proceed and the screen will return to normal, implying a successful download. In fact, the router's configuration is not changed because Cisco IOS software will not accept the invalid command. No error message is displayed. [CSCdj60858]
Note Currently the tool lists all interfaces in the system as possible choices. Because the VCT does not currently support semantic checking, it cannot check whether the interface mentioned has the relevant encapsulation turned on. However, the tool will display an error message if you select an Ethernet interface.
- You can define an atm pvc command without specifying all three range parameters (peak, average, and burst). Workaround: None. You need to either specify all three parameters (peak, average, and burst) or none of them. [CSCdj60957]
- When interface serial2 is configured for Frame-Relay encapsulation, the VCT allows the user to define an ATM pvc and upload the information (even though the Cisco IOS software rejects the command.) [CSCdj60948]
Note Currently, the tool does not do semantic checking to determine the type of voice ports and to dynamically determine which commands are applicable.
- The snmp-server host command is sometimes not displayed when the optional parameters are not specified in alphabetical order in the configuration file. Also, the udp-port optional parameter be specified before any of the other optional parameters. Workaround: You need to specify the udp-port parameter before any of the other optional parameters. These other optional parameters should be specified in alphabetical order.. [CSCdj61429]
- Switching to text mode rearranges the position of the global commands. After downloading a configuration from a router or open a local configuration, the global commands are rearranged. Workaround: There is no known workaround. However, this does not affect the configuration of the Cisco MC3810. [CSCdj66152]
- The Supervisory Disconnect command in GUI mode shows options to choose FXS and E&M voice ports. This command is applicable for FXO ports only. Workaround: This release does not fully implement semantic checking. Therefore, you need to be aware of which ports are applicable to this command. [CSCdj66198]
- The GUI mode shows that the tie-line option is valid for all three types of voice ports. The tie-line option is only valid for E&M voice port connections. Workaround: This is a semantic checking error which is not fully implemented in this release. Therefore, you need to be aware of which options are applicable to which voice port. [CSCdj66218]
- The GUI mode shows the ring frequency option as an option for all voice port types. The ring frequency option is applicable to FXS voice ports only. Workaround: There is no known workaround. You need to be aware of which options are applicable to which type of voice port. [CSCdj66229]
- This release of VCT only supports username commands with a mandatory password argument. Workaround: Specify password or use text mode to enter a username command that does not have a password. [CSCdj66645]
- Many of the more complex IP routing commands do not show up in GUI mode. This version does not support the tag and permanent arguments. Workaround: Enter these types of commands in text mode.[CSCdj66651]
- The snmp-server community command does not show up in GUI mode when it contains the view option. Workaround: Enter the command or view the command in text mode. [CSCdj66672]
- If a host selected in the "Open" dialog/download dialog box is unknown, tcl errors are shown on the console. [CSCdj69391]
- The interfaces that are disabled with the no command are also displayed in the treeview, but not in the interface widgets in various commands. The interfaces that are not supported in GUI mode are also displayed in the interface list widget. Workaround: the interface list widget contains the correct list of interfaces. [CSCdj79749]
- Sometimes the error dialog box appears behind the main window, giving the impression that the VCT is not responding to inputs. Workaround: If this condition occurs, drag the main window until the dialog window appears. click on the dialog window and then click the appropriate button on the dialog window. [CSCdj79750]
- Commands with the NSAP addresses in the map-list section do not appear in the GUI mode. Workaround: These commands are not currently supported. Enter and view these commands in text mode. [CSCdj80297]
