About This Guide

This section discusses the organization, conventions, and audience of the Cisco MC3810 Visual Configuration Tool User Guide. This section also provides directions for obtaining additional information.

The Cisco MC3810 Visual Configuration Tool (VCT) works with Cisco Netsys Connectivity Service Manager 4.1 to allow you to:

• Configure the Cisco MC3810 for data, voice, and video traffic with an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI).

• Use the Netsys Connectivity Service Manager integrity checking features to verify the integrity of your configuration.

• Create and open a baseline model of your network.

• Create and view topology information on your network.

This guide provides simplified configuration procedures with little detail about software configuration commands. For more detailed information about Cisco MC3810 software configuration, refer to the Cisco MC3810 Multiservice Concentrator Software Configuration Guide, and the Cisco MC3810 Multiservice Concentrator Command Reference Guide.

Organization

This document is organized as follows:

• Chapter 1, "Using the Cisco MC3810 Visual Configuration Tool," provides information on how to use the Cisco MC3810 VCT, including installation procedures, how to create and modify device groups, and how to upload and download configuration files.

• Chapter 2, "Using the Visual Configuration Tool to Configure the Cisco MC3810," provides simplified procedures for configuring the Cisco MC3810 multiservice access concentrator using the VCT.

• Appendix A, "Configuring a TFTP Server," describes how to configure a TFTP server.

Conventions

This publication uses the following conventions to convey instructions and information:

Command descriptions use these conventions:

• Commands and keywords are in boldface.

• Arguments for which you supply values are in italics.

• Elements in square brackets ([ ]) are optional.

• Alternative keywords are grouped in braces ({ }) and separated by vertical bars (|).

Examples use the following conventions:

• Terminal sessions and information the system displays are printed in screen font.

• Information you enter is in boldface screen font.

• Nonprinting characters, such as passwords, are in angle brackets (< >).

• Information the system displays is in screen font, with default responses to system prompts in square brackets ([ ]).
