Release Notes for Cisco Service Selection Dashboard 2.1
May 24, 1999
These release notes contain important information and describe issues and workarounds regarding Cisco Service Selection Dashboard (SSD) 2.1. For complete documentation on this product, please refer to the Cisco Service Selection Dashboard User Guide.
These release notes discuss the following topics:
- New Information
- Closed Issues
- Open Issues and Workarounds
- Cisco Connection Online
- Documentation CD-ROM
The following new information applies to this release of Cisco Service Selection Dashboard:
- Year 2000 Compliance as defined on Cisco's Year 2000 web page at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/752/2000/index.shtml
- Performance has been significantly improved for logon and logoff processing.
- The TEMPLATE_FILE_CACHING parameter has been dropped from the dashboard.conf file. Template files are always cached. The template file cache can still be flushed using the cacheAdmin servlet.
- The template and docs directories have been moved from the installation base directory to a new directory named docRoot.
- For this release of Cisco SSD, Cisco recommends Java Runtime Environment, version 1.1.7 release 5.
- This version of Cisco SSD works with the Cisco 6400 Series IOS for Node Route Processor---Multiple Domain (NRP-MD), which is Cisco IOS Release 12.0(3)DC, the NRP-Service Selection Gateway (NRP-SSG) train.
- To support the Cisco 6400 NRP image (Cisco NRP-SSG), new localization messages have been added. Support has also been added for the proxy service type.
The following issues have been resolved in Cisco Service Selection Dashboard 2.1:
- Users can no longer browse Cisco SSD configuration files, which contained the administrator username and password. Template and document files have been moved to the docRoot directory. Servlet and Acme servers have been modified to retrieve documents relative to docRoot.
- The user will now receive a message indicating the session has timed out, instead of loss of sync, when the connection to the Cisco SSD has been dropped.
- Single-character service names are now displayed.
- Users can now log in to the Cisco SSD successfully, without any message about an erroneous service or web server error, even if one of their services configured on the authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) server does not exist.
- For service log on, if a user specifies a password with no username, the service will now be authenticated with the specified password, instead of the cached password, and the account username.
- To make use of the NRP-SSG's proxy service capability, the configuration parameter AUTHENTICATE_GUEST_PROXY was added. Turning this parameter on will prompt guest users for username and password when a proxy service is selected. Turning it off will use the guest username and password to authenticate the service.
- The service list (lower left pane) no longer disappears after a sequence of three to five service login/logout requests.
This section identifies issues with Cisco Service Selection Dashboard 2.1.
- The Browse button does not work during installation. The new version of InstallShield Java Edition (version 2.02) improves the Browse feature. However, on Solaris, the Browse button hangs the installation program when it is run by root. The workaround is to type in the path you want to use, or run the installation program by a non-root user.
Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.
CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
