Configuring the Cisco  6510 Remotely

This chapter describes how to use Telnet to access the Cisco 6510 Service Selection Gateway (Cisco  6510) command-line interface (CLI).

Logging On

To access the Cisco  6510 with Telnet, follow these steps:

Step 1 Telnet to interface card 1 of the Cisco  6510.

The Cisco  6510 prompts you to enter the username.

Step 2 Enter root.

The Cisco  6510 prompts you to enter a password.

Step 3 Enter the password (default: admin).

The Cisco  6510 prompt (SSG >) appears.

Step 4 Make and save any configuration changes.

Step 5 When you are finished, enter:

Changing the Password

To change the password, enter the following command from the SSG  > prompt:

SSG  > passwd
Old Password: *****
New Password: *****
Re-enter New Password: *****
Password changed.

Note If you forget the password, you can restore it to the default setting by entering the passwd reset command from the Cisco  6510 terminal interface. The passwd reset command cannot be used remotely.

Disconnecting a Telnet Session

To determine whether there is an active Telnet session to the Cisco  6510, enter the following command from the SSG prompt:

SSG  > telnet show

If there is an active session, you can disconnect by entering the following:

SSG  > telnet disconnect
