Release Notes for the Cisco 1720 Router

Release Notes for the Cisco 1720 Router

This release note contains corrections and additions to the Cisco 1700 Router Hardware Installation Guide.

Fast Step Software

The Cisco 1720 does not support Fast Step software, as stated in the chapter "Introduction to Configuring the Cisco 1700 Router" chapter in the Cisco 1700 Router Software Configuration Guide.

Installing WAN Interface Cards in Correct Sequence

The Cisco 1720 router discovers interfaces on WAN interface cards in the WIC0 slot before it discovers the interface on a card in the WIC1 slot. This can affect your router configuration. This section describes how to ensure that your existing router configuration is not affected when you install WAN interface cards.

Caution Be sure to read the documentation that came with the WAN interface cards before installing them.

Installing WAN Interface Cards for the First Time

If you are installing a WAN interface card in the router for the first time, install the card in the WIC0 slot to ensure that your software configuration will not be affected if you later install a second card.

Installing a Second WAN Interface Card

If you want to install a second WAN interface card and there is a card installed in the WIC1 slot, follow this procedure to prevent having to reconfigure your router:

Step 1 Remove the installed card from the WIC1 slot.

Step 2 Reinstall that card in the WIC0 slot.

Step 3 Install the new card in the WIC1 slot.

Cisco Connection Online

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.

CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.

You can access CCO in the following ways:
