To specify the number of concurrent Cisco Transport Manager/CNM client sessions that each Cisco Transport Manager/CNM client will process, use the cnm max-sess-per-addr configuration command. Use the default or the no form of this command to return the session parameter to the default value of 2 sessions.
[default | no] cnm max-sess-per-addr number
number Enter the number of concurrent Cisco Transport Manager/CNM client sessions that each Cisco Transport Manager/CNM client will process. The Cisco Transport Manager/CNM agent limits the number of concurrent Cisco Transport Manager/CNM client sessions that it will accept from each configured IP client address to two. If you require more than the default of two, this command can be used to increase the number. Having multiple active sessions increases memory consumption.

To select the Q.921 link layer operating mode for an interface, use the encapsulation q921 configuration command. To disable the interface, use the no form of this command.
This encapsulation method is normally required on SONET/SDH DCC interfaces to interoperate with other SONET/SDH network elements. The Q.921 protocol has two modes of operation: user side and network side. One of these two modes can be specified for the encapsulation mode if it is known. If one side of the Q.921 link is in user-side mode, the other side of the link must be in network-side mode. Users have the option of leaving out the user-side or network-side specification, in which case the software will adjust its mode automatically and dynamically.
There is also an option to specify the network layer protocols that are supported on top of this link layer protocol (for example, IP, CLNS, or multi-protocol operation).
[no] encapsulation q921 {auto | network | user} {clns | ip | multi}
| Syntax | Description |

[no] ingress-data-rate avg-data-rate data-burst-len
| Syntax | Description |
|---|---|
avg-data-rate | Enter the long-term average rate that arriving traffic will be accepted and forwarded in kbps. The length of packets arriving from the Ethernet is accumulated and used to determine if the arrival rate exceeds the specified average value. The average data rate parameter specifies the rate at which the leaky bucket is replenished. For example, if the average data rate is set to 4500 kbps, the leaky bucket will be replenished to permit up to 4500 kbps of data. If all the Ethernet traffic is being forwarded onto a multilink bundle, the data rate should be set to match the aggregate link capacity. |
data-burst-len | Enter the amount of data that can be received and forwarded in a short period of time. This parameter allows bursty traffic to arrive at a greater than average data rate, but for a limited time. The length of time that a burst will be received and forwarded is determined by this parameter and the traffic that arrives. Initially, the leaky bucket is preloaded with the amount given by data-burst-len parameter. If no traffic arrives, the leaky bucket will accumulate up to the value given by the burst length. The data-burst-len parameter should be set to a value that permits a moderate amount of traffic to arrive without significantly affecting the sharing of resources. If the data-burst-len parameter is set to a large value, buffers and processor cycles might be taken away from traffic on other Ethernet interfaces. A nominal value of 64 kbps is often adequate. You can adjust this value accordingly to fit your network application. |
To specify the rate at which packets will be received, processed, and forwarded, use the ingress-pkt-rate interface configuration command. Use the no form of this command to disable ingress packet rate policing. This command is applicable only to the Cisco ONS 15304 on Ethernet ports 1 to 8.
[no] ingress-pkt-rate avg-pkt-rate pkt-burst-len
| Syntax | Description |
|---|---|
avg-pkt-rate | Enter the long-term average rate that packets will be received and forwarded. This parameter is specified in units of packets per second (pps). Each packet that arrives consumes one credit from the leaky bucket. For example, if the avg-pkt-rate is set to 3000 pps, the leaky bucket will be replenished to permit up to 3000 pps to be received. A value of 2500 pps on each of the eight Ethernet ports reflects a total forwarding rate of 20000 pps of aggregate receive capacity on the Ethernet ports (excluding arrivals on serial interfaces). |
pkt-burst-len | Enter the number of packets that can be received and forwarded in a short period of time. This parameter allows a burst of packets to arrive at a rate greater than the average packet rate, but only for a short time. The length of time that a burst of packets will be received is determined by the burst length. Initially, the leaky bucket is preloaded with the amount given by the pkt-burst-len parameter. If no traffic arrives, the leaky bucket will accumulate up to the value not to exceed the burst length. The pkt-burst-len parameter should be set to a value that permits a moderate amount of packets to arrive without significantly affecting the sharing of buffer resources. If the pkt-burst-len parameter is set to a large value, buffers and processor cycles might be taken away from traffic on the Ethernet interfaces. A nominal burst length of 50 packets is often adequate. You can adjust this value accordingly to fit your network application. |
To create a single instance of an IP-over-CLNP tunnel, use the interface ctunnel interface configuration command. To disable the interface, use the no form of this command.
This virtual interface allows IP packets to be carried in CLNP packets. This tunneling feature is useful in SONET/SDH DCC management plane networks, which use CLNP at the network layer. To manage IP devices like the Cisco ONS 15304, one or more of these IP-over-CLNP tunnels might be necessary.
[no] interface ctunnel id-number
| Syntax | Description |
|---|---|
id-number | Enter a unique identification number for the interface starting from 0. |
interface LDCCA 0, interface LDCCB 0
The interface LDCCA 0 and interface LDCCB configuration commands provide the ability to send and receive management traffic on the SONET/SDH data communications channel (DCC) comprised of SONET/SDH overhead bytes D4 to D12, forming a 576 kbps data communications channel. In SONET terminology, these overhead bytes are referred to as Line DCC bytes; in SDH terminology, these bytes are referred to as Multiplex Section overhead bytes.
LDCCA serves as the interface for the 576 kbps DCC channel on SAM A, while LDCCB is for SAM B. These SONET/SDH DCC interfaces are treated like other interfaces in the system software. Each channel can be configured separately, but typically both are enabled together.
The interface instance number should be set to 0 for interface LDCCA and interface LDCCB, because the Cisco ONS 15304 supports only one pair of optical interfaces.
Like other Cisco IOS interfaces, different link and network layer protocols can be used, including OSI and IP link and network layers.
To statically define a virtual interface that supports multilink PPP (MLPPP) operation, use the interface multilink configuration command. The Cisco ONS 15304 supports MLPPP for leased line E1 services and supports up to eight multilink interfaces, each of which can aggregate up to eight E1-rate serial links.
interface multilink interface-number
interface-number Enter the multilink interface number.
Syntax
Description
interface SDCCA 0, interface SDCCB 0
Interfaces SDCCA and SDCCB provide the ability to send and receive management traffic on the SONET/SDH data communications channel (DCC) comprised of SONET/SDH overhead bytes D1, D2, and D3. In SONET terminology, these overhead bytes are referred to as Section DCC bytes; in SDH terminology, these bytes are referred to as Regenerator Section overhead bytes.
SDCCA serves as the interface for the DCC channel on SAM A, while SDCCB is for SAM B. The SONET/SDH DCC interfaces are treated like other interfaces in the system software. Each channel can be configured separately, but typically both are enabled together. The interface instance number should be set to 0 for both interface SDCCA and interface SDCCB, as the Cisco ONS 15304 supports only one pair of optical interfaces.
Typically, the interfaces are configured to operate with CLNS or IP protocols. In most applications, CLNS protocols and Q.921 must be enabled to interoperate with other SONET/SDH network elements. Refer to the Cisco Optical Networking System 15304 Software Configuration Guide for information on how to configure the SDH DCC subsystem and the Cisco Integrated SONET Router 3303 Software Configuration Guide to configure the SONET DCC subsystem.
The following example shows a typical configuration. In general, the Q.921 protocol is configured at the link layer, followed by activation of the CLNS at the network layer:
