Configuring DS1 Interfaces

Configuring DS1 Interfaces

This chapter describes how to configure DS1 interfaces and the supported options. DS1 interface configuration maintains a 1-to-1 relationship between the line interface unit (LIU) ports on the Cisco Optical Networking System (ONS) 15303 and the VT-1.5s. As a result, both the LIU ports and their corresponding VT1.5s should be created prior to cross-connecting them. This chapter covers the ine enter/edit/delete DS1 set of commands.

The Cisco ONS 15303 DS1 interface is a transparent interface providing the ability to cross-connect any DS1 service to a VT1.5. This allows the Cisco ONS 15303 to pass traditional voice traffic as well as video and data traffic. As a result, the Cisco ONS 15303 can transport not only traditional voice traffic but also ATM and IP traffic.

Configuring DS1 Physical Ports

The DS1 ports are configured using the Cisco ONS 15303 ine enter command. To configure the DS1 ports, complete the following steps:

Task

Command

Access the config mode.

ONS# configure terminal

Place the DS1 port in-service. For descriptions on other available options, refer to "Commands for DS1 Ports" on.

Note If no framing type is specified, unframed will be used.

ONS (config)# ine enter ds1 admin is

Repeat these two tasks for each DS1 port.

Parameter Description

ds1

DS1 port. The field ds1-range can be a single number in the range 1 to 8 OR a combination of numbers in the range 1 to 8 delineated by commas, (for example 3,5,7) OR a range of numbers in the range 1 to 8 (for example 3-7). Therefore, the choices for the field <ds1-range> are <1-8> or <1-8>,<1-8>... or <1-8>-<1-8>.

fac-id

Facility id is the user-entered field that is used to easily identify an DS1 interface. The facility id is an alphanumeric string that can be up to 64 characters long.

framing

Framing indicates the type of framing used for the DS1 interface. Framing is either CEPT or unframed when no framing is needed. Framing can be either CRC4 (cept-crc4) or no CRC (cept-no-crc).

fm-rept

Fault monitoring reporting setting. Select on if all fault conditions on the DS1 should be reported (that is alarms should be declared). Select off if all fault conditions on the DS1 should not be reported. Default setting is on.

almpfl

Index of the alarm profile that should be used for this DS1. The choices are 1, 2, 3, 4 (which are user specified alarm profiles), std and not-reported (that is all the alarms have severity set to Not Reported [NR]).

tca-rept

Threshold Crossing Alert (TCA) reporting flag. Select on if all TCAs on the DS1 should be reported. Select off if all threshold crossing alerts on the DS1 should not be reported. Default setting is on.

gos

Index of the Grade of Service (GOS) profile to be used for this DS1. The GOS profile contains the thresholds for threshold crossing alerts (TCAs). The choice for gos is currently only 1.

delay

Auto delay time allows operators to inhibit TCA reporting and fm reporting (that is alarm declaration) on the DS1 up to a specified date and time. This feature is useful when the remote end or intermediate facilities have a known outage time or while troubleshooting the network. It is also useful while setting up new facilities when the remote end has not yet been set up. The maximum auto delay time is 90 days. The date parameter has to be entered in the mm/dd/yyyy format and the time parameter has to be entered in the hh:mm format. Default value is 00/00/0000 00:00.

trig

Auto trigger timer allows operators to set a trigger timer that can last for up to 23:59 hours. The time parameter, which is in the hh:mm format, indicates the time for which the DS1 has to be continuously functional before threshold crossing alert (TCA) reporting and fm reporting are activated. The auto trigger timer is set for the specified value when the DS1 comes up. If the DS1 goes down before the auto trigger timer is triggered, the auto trigger timer is reset to the specified value. When the auto trigger timer is triggered, TCA reporting and fm reporting are activated (if tca-rept and fm-rept are set to on) and the configuration value of trig is changed to zero. This feature is useful when the facility is known to have some irregularities in the early part of its being up. Default value is 00:00.

admin

Administrative state. Select is to place the DS1 in service. Select oos to place the DS1 out of service.

timing

Transmit timing mode. Select transparent when the timing for the DS1 is passed through. Select system when the transmit timing for the DS1 is derived from the system clock. Note that transparent timing can be selected on all the E1s (8). Check under modifications.

ts16

Indicates whether timeslot 16 should be used either for data or signaling purposes.

(config)#ine edit ds1 ds1-range
[fac-id string]
[framing {cept-no-crc | cept-crc4 | Unframed}]
[fm-rept {on | off}]
[almpfl {profile-number}]
[tca-rept {on | off}]
[gos 1]
[delay date time]
[trig time]
[admin {is | oos}]
[timing transparent]
[ts16 {data | idle}]

Look under ine enter sts for explanations for the above parameters.
