New Product: Cisco uOne — Voice and Unified Messaging Application

New Product: Cisco uOne — Voice and Unified Messaging Application

Product Overview

The Cisco Unified Open Network Exchange (Cisco uOne), an integral part of Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data), is a voice and unified messaging application. The first commercially available version of Cisco uOne 4.1E - Entry Edition - runs on the Cisco Media Convergence Server 7830 (MCS-7830) and is available for the North American market.Cisco uOne provides voice-messaging services on an Internet messaging architecture for Cisco"s CallManager. Together, they provide Enterprise customers with a completely IP-based Unified Communications strategy. Wherever possible, uOne supports industry standard Internet messaging protocols such as LDAP, IMAP, MIME, SMTP, and HTTP.

Key Features and Benefits

Common Features for uOne 4.1E Entry Edition and uOne 4.1E Corporate Edition

Cisco uOne 4.1E provides complete voice messaging functionality for the enterprise. Voice messaging is a mission-critical application that encourages faster, more efficient communications in the corporate community. Cisco uOne subscribers retrieve, store, and record voice messages as well as edit, forward with added comments, and reply to a subscriber"s message with a phone call.

Cisco uOne 4.1E allows subscribers to gain control of the onslaught of messages, which in turn saves time and increases productivity. Cisco uOne 4.1E operates within a customer"s LAN environment by utilizing an open packet telephony standard. The Cisco uOne application provides full interoperability with Cisco AVVID. An inherent part of Cisco AVVID is a seamless solution between Cisco uOne 4.1E and Cisco CallManager 2.4. Cisco uOne 4.1E includes a Web-enabled administration tool. Voice mail subscribers can be easily added, modified, and deleted.

Cisco uOne 4.1E communicates over LANs and WANs using voice over IP (VoIP). The voice messaging industry is evolving from a proprietary, closed, high-cost infrastructure to an open, distributed, standards-based design with correspondingly better price/performance ratios. Cisco Systems and the Cisco uOne application are at the forefront of this evolution. The delivery of robust voice messaging over IP reduces the overall infrastructure spending, lowers capital and operational costs, and opens the environment to explosive innovation in telephony applications.

uOne 4.1E Entry Edition

The uOne Entry edition utilizes the single-box platform for unified messaging. The uOne Entry platform allows the uOne components to reside on the same system as CallManager 2.4. This provides a single box solution for an IP-based messaging system, allowing four to eight uOne sessions on an NT server, along with CallManager, Directory Server and Messaging Server. This platform was designed to work with the MCS-7830 system.

uOne 4.1E Corporate Edition

The uOne Corporate platform is configured to run the uOne components on a separate system from CallManager. This dual-box platform utilizes an MCS-7835 system for uOne, allowing the number of sessions to increase to 20, and the ability to support up to 500 users. Because the uOne Corporate edition automatically configures the MCS-7835 system to use the maximum of 20 ports, no additional purchases should be made to upgrade the system for additional sessions. This dual-box platform also prepares both CallManager and uOne for better performance and preparation for future software enhancements.
