Cisco Transaction Connection (CTRC) Version 2.0 provides TCP/IP end-users and servers with fast, reliable and secure access to CICS and IBM DB2 databases. CTRC, a cost-effective software and router-based solution for data and application access replaces expensive and hard-to-manage UNIX and NT gateways and proprietary host software.
A feature of the Cisco IOS software, CTRC connects Windows and UNIX applications directly to host data. Jointly developed with StarQuest Software, CTRC uses the Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) protocol to access remote databases over TCP/IP or Systems Network Architecture (SNA) networks. Cisco is the first vendor to provide this functionality on a router. Organizations achieve protocol independence between end-users and hosts, enabling the new applications to communicate directly to DB2 or CICS without costly upgrades. CTRC supports enterprise subsystems, including e-commerce, dynamic Web content, custom applications, decision support systems, data mining, and business intelligence.
Included with CTRC at no additional cost is the StarQuest StarSQL Enterprise Edition client. The standards-based CTRC solution provides fast, efficient interoperability, cost-effective scalability and reliable manageability within the network infrastructure. CTRC leverages the intelligence of Cisco IOS software for reliability, high performance and fault tolerance.
CTRC provides the following features:
Access to SNA databases from TCP/IP end users
Access to CICS applications from TCP/IP end users
Integration with Cisco IOS to provide an intelligent network service for application connectivity
Standards-based solution
High-performance solution on a Cisco router platform, rather than on a general-purpose, standalone gateway
Benefits of the solution:
Router-based CTRC offers a much more reliable and scalable solution, supporting up to 5000 concurrent connections.
End-to-end solution providing StarSQL Enterprise Edition clients at no additional charge
Protocol Independence between End User and Database Host
As part of the Cisco IOS software, CTRC can take advantage of the many network services inherent in the IOS, such as security, QoS and load balancing
CTRC reduces the costs associated with general-purpose operating systems by providing a reliable, low-maintenance platform. This consolidated gateway approach simplifies the network architecture by removing standalone gateways in the network
Clients Supported:
StarSQL EE from StarQuest Software, Inc.
DB2 Connect Personal Edition from IBM
OLE/DB from Microsoft
ClearConnect from Sybase
Quick DB for DB2 from Attachmate
