Product Overview

The Cisco SC2200 product is a software application that runs on industry-standard Sun Solaris platforms. Specifically designed to meet stringent telco requirements, the Cisco SC2200 provides a cost-effective solution for integrating high-growth dial access into the PSTN network infrastructures while off-loading already overloaded voice switches. This allows service providers to realize new revenue opportunities, reduce operating costs, and cost effectively scale their networks. The Cisco SC2200 is the solution for many of the issues surrounding a conventional Primary Rate Interface (PRI) solution such as high interconnect costs and congestion from ever-growing Internet traffic.

The Cisco SC2200 is responsible for providing a centralized function for adding Signaling System #7 interfaces to large remote access POPs. Working with Cisco 5x00 access servers, the SC2200 creates a "virtual switch" which, from a signaling perspective, functions as a terminating and originating end-office with SS7. The Cisco SC2200 is a key enabler of the New World network architecture. Utilizing Cisco`s Open Packet Telephony (OPT) architecture, the SC2200 provides clean separation of call control functions from the switching fabric and transport.

The Cisco SC2200 is a flexible software product that is provisioned based on the SS7 variant required by the customer-specific application. With choices of ISUP, National User Part (NUP), or Telephony User Part (TUP) varying by country, the Cisco SC2200 currently supports 20 variants of SS7 for 16 countries. More are continually being added.

Key Features and Benefits

The primary function of the Cisco SC2200 is providing signaling connectivity to the SS7 network and providing all the functions for signaling and SS7 network management. The signaling controller also provides:

Authorized users may create, modify, and delete system profiles that define how a particular system controller is configured and operated using the configuration tool, a Java-based client-server application. The configuration tool server maintains the master configuration information associated with each Cisco SC2200.

The Cisco SC2200 application is offered on the NEBS compliant Sun Netr at 11xx and FT1800 series servers (Both servers, via IP interface, connect to the SS7 network through the Cisco 2600SLT).

The Cisco SC2200 is available in configurations to support a variety of network sizes in both single and dual host configurations. The dual configuration is used to provide a "hot standby" system for redundancy in the customer`s network.

With the SC2200, Cisco is delivering its promise of the New World architecture. Providing an open solution that scales to PSTN size, performance, and reliability at a fraction of the cost of legacy switching systems that contributes to the bottom line immediately. The Cisco SS7 solution enables new services for new revenues today. Flexibility is the keyword through architecture options and programmability to build a cost effective, standards-based, global solution that is ready today.
