Cisco NetFlow FlowCollector with Network Data Analyzer

Product Overview

The Cisco NetFlow FlowCollector with Network Data Analyzer is a new Cisco software application that works with the IOS NetFlow IP traffic reporting feature, which is found on many Cisco switches and routers. The NetFlow data characterizes the IP traffic being forwarded on the network. NetFlow FlowCollectors capture, filter, aggregate, and store the data from these NetFlow enabled devices. This data is useful for detail traffic analysis, network planning, network monitoring, usage-based billing, and more. Combined with the Network Data Analyzer, used to graphically view the NetFlow collected data, service provider and enterprise engineers, capacity planners, marketing groups, and network management can better understand their traffic patterns.

The NetFlow traffic describes details such as source and destination addresses, autonomous system numbers, port addresses, time of day, number of packets, bytes, and type of service. NetFlow information is also used by third party mediation vendors, network management tools, and billing companies.

NetFlow FlowCollector 3.0

• New File Storage Formats: Besides saving export data in flat file format, binary and compression options are now available. Binary and compression combined can give a 10:1 reduction in disk utilization.

• Improved Disk Space management Schemes.

• Process Watcher: Enables high availability of the FlowCollector applications by automatically starting and restarting these applications if they stop abnormally.

• Router based aggregation export support

Network Data Analyzer 3.0

• Traffic Matrix Statistics (TMS) support. Analyzer can create and delete TMS data collections on UtilityServers through its GUI.

• Router configuration: Analyzer can be used to modify router configuration parameters related to NetFlow and TMS functions through its GUI.

• FlowCollector Control: The ability to programmatically configure and control the operation of the NetFlow FlowCollector v.3 through its GUI. Configurations can now be done off-line and pushed to the FlowCollector or to multiple FlowCollectors simultaneously.

• Router based aggregation support. Analyzer can configure and view the router based aggregation of NetFlow data.

• On-line help system: You can use Netscape Version 4.5 or Internet Explorer Version 5 as the web browser for viewing the Analyzer Help system.
