The GE line card is the first ethernet-based product for the GSR12000 series, providing a high bandwidth and low cost solution for high co-located GSRs or between GSRs and other data switching equipment. The new product offering includes either a GE line card with short wave optics, GE-SX-MM, for 550 m reach, or a GE line card with long wave optics, the GE-LX-SM, for 3 km reach. The new GE line card provides the following benefits:
Intra-POP connectivity. Enables Service Providers to keep cost down for their Network expansions by providing a low cost intra-POP connection between the GSR12000 series products with gigabit bandwidth transport capacity. This low cost GE link can also be used between the GSR12000 and other gigabit-ethernet edge switches and routers.
Server farm connectivity. Provides a connectivity solution for web-based Service Providers with large server farms who are looking at low cost links between the servers and the POP`s GSRs.
Higher bandwidth POP uplink connections. Allows service Providers to keep up with the increase demand for low cost and high bandwidth capacity links for POP interconnectivity with enterprise Gigabit Ethernet switches.
The single port GE transmits Ethernet packets directly over 1000base-SX or LX optical interfaces at wire speed.
