Cisco ConfigMaker is an easy-to-use Microsoft Windows 95-, 98-, and NT 4.0-based software tool designed to configure a small network of Cisco routers, switches, hubs, and other network devices from a single PC. Cisco ConfigMaker is designed for resellers and network administrators of small to medium-sized businesses who are proficient in LAN and WAN fundamentals and basic network design. For fast and efficient configuration of Ethernet networks and WAN connectivity, Cisco ConfigMaker prompts users through the setup process. Online WAN configuration worksheets list important information that the network administrator must obtain from the Internet service provider or WAN service provider before configuring the devices. To configure devices: The user drags and drops devices and connections from the palette to create a network topology diagram. Individual devices and connections are configured using the task wizards and information collected using the worksheets. Configurations are downloaded to the appropriate devices from a standalone PC or over the network. Cisco ConfigMaker requires no previous experience with Cisco devices or the Cisco IOS software command line interface. Ease of Use The drag-and-drop graphical user interface includes: Network diagrams that provide visual representations of network topologies Task Wizards that prompt the user for configuration information A Task List that provides a step-by-step guide and checks off completed configuration steps A multimedia movie tutorial and a comprehensive online and context-sensitive help Supports the latest Cisco Technologies and Products It`s easy to set up Cisco routers with voice over IP, specify async serial lines for dial backup, install Cisco Networked Office stack at a remote site, or configure Cisco IOS Firewall feature set software. Wizards-Based Configuration Task Wizards: Users are prompted through processes and for key information. Wizards provide a decision-tree framework. AutoDetect Device Wizard: Automatically detects and identifies the hardware configuration of any Cisco supported device on the network, and any WAN or voice interfaces installed in a modular router. Address Network Wizard: Enables quick and easy completion of complex network addressing procedures by using supplied address ranges and assigning the addresses to selected devices or the entire network. It makes the most efficient use of available addresses. Security Wizard: Enables policy-based configurations for efficient setup of the Cisco IOS Firewall feature set, purchased for use in conjunction with Cisco 1600 and 2500 series routers. Deliver Configuration Wizard: Once the desired configuration has been achieved, this wizard automatically downloads configurations through the console port or over the network to selected devices. Additional Features for Network Administrators Whether routers are deployed locally or remotely, administrators ensure consistency for devices across the network by configuring the ability to send a message of the day, set up an HTTP server, or determine IP password encryption. Additional Features for Resellers To configure multiple routers with similar configurations, modifications to parameters can be made to "saved" configurations through the Window-based GUI, and revised configurations can be downloaded to the specified router. Additional Features for Sophisticated Users Ability to append command line interface (CLI) commands to the ConfigMaker generated configuration file. Sample Network Topologies Additional time savings and network definition help may be found in the supplied network samples. The samples include various examples for branch office, Internet, PRI and hub, and telecommuter solutions. Multiple Protocol Cisco ConfigMaker configures TCP/IP, Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX), AppleTalk, and routing protocols (RIP version 2 and EIGRP) in any combination for supported Cisco IOS routers. To prevent incompatible configurations, Cisco ConfigMaker will crosscheck the common protocol between locations when connections are enabled. Furthermore, multiprotocol support, with the use of the Address Network Wizard, ensures protocol and addressing consistency across network devices. Connection Types Cisco ConfigMaker supports the most popular and cost-effective connections such as Frame Relay, High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI), Primary Rate Interface (PRI), ISDN Leased line, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), voice, and async for WAN, Internet, and corporate network connections. Cisco IOS Firewall feature set Cisco ConfigMaker configures a firewall on any Cisco router that supports the Cisco IOS Firewall feature set to protect internal networks from intrusion, provide secure Internet and remote access connections, and enable network commerce via the World Wide Web. The Cisco IOS Firewall feature set provides capabilities such as Context-Based Access Control (CBAC), JAVA applet filtering, denial of service detection and prevention, and various logging functions. Voice/Fax-Cisco ConfigMaker is the ideal tool to manage and provide consistency between configuration variables when integrating voice, fax, and data across the network. Voice/fax network modules for Cisco 2600 and 3600 series routers provide unparalleled multifunctional capabilities in a branch office, and may significantly reduce recurring communications costs. Dialup Routers for Remote User Access Cisco ConfigMaker configures various dial-specific features. Connect modems to Cisco access servers that support async connections. SNMP Cisco ConfigMaker configures basic SNMP parameters, including community strings and general device information. Cisco ConfigMaker Configuration Software
