End-user requirements for dedicated leased-line access to the Internet are growing rapidly, offering tremendous opportunities for Internet Service Providers (ISPs). But these requirements are placing a severe strain on the ISP`s existing infrastructure. To meet demand for Internet leased-line connections, many ISPs are selecting optical interfaces that support increased density. The Cisco 10000 Edge Services Router (ESR) Channelized OC-12 line card is the first channelized interface module capable of 622 Mbps of bandwidth, and flexible enough to support thousands of DS0, DS1, and DS3 connections. The Cisco 10000 ESR Channelized OC-12 interface module sets the new standard for capacity, density, performance and services in the dedicated leased-line access market. The Cisco 10000 ESR Channelized OC-12 interface module occupies a single slot. It is fully hot swappable and has no slot dependency. The module has an SC duplex connector supporting single-mode, intermediate-reach optics. The module supports 12 separate STS-1 signals, each capable of carrying DS3 (full rate or subrate), 28 individual DS1 channels, nxDS0 up to 24 DS0 channels per DS1, or 28 individual VT1.5 channels. Each of the 12 separate STS-1 signals is multiplexed over an STS-12 (OC-12) port. The module supports up to 768 channels per card with any mixture of DS3, nxDS1, or nxDS0 as long as the total number of channels does not exceed chassis scaling limits (see Cisco 10000 ESR data sheet) and no more than 192 channels are assigned within a single STS-3. The module supports Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), Frame Relay, and Cisco High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) encapsulations and is fully manageable via standard Cisco management tools.
