Cisco`s AccessPath integrated access system is designed to meet the demands of rapidly growing Internet service providers (ISPs), telecommunication carriers, and other network service providers who offer managed Internet services. This universal connection server family also provides a ready solution for large enterprises who are expanding their intranet requirements to include dial access. As the first member in a new family of integrated access/server solutions, AccessPath provides an immediate solution for dial points of presence (POPs) in a single, complete system, in order to accommodate rapidly expanding networks. AccessPath is a cost-effective solution that offers breakthroughs in POP management, density, and scalability, while continuing to provide the rich set of access services that are part of the Cisco IOSTM software. In addition to supporting both asynchronous and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) connections on every access line, the AccessPath server also includes a full range of backhaul routing interfaces, network and service management capability, and a highly resilient design to ensure network availability. By providing all these functions in a single package, the AccessPath solution meets the rapid deployment requirements of the fastest-growing service providers and enterprises, while at the same time delivering a cost-effective growth solution for the leanest ones. The AccessPath family also supports the most complete set of access protocols through the Cisco IOS software, including IP, IPX, AppleTalk, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP), and X.3/X.28. This extensive protocol support enables Cisco to offer the industry`s premier universal access functionality for large-scale deployment. The AccessPath family provides the following features and benefits: Complete POP solution, which eliminates ordering complexity and significantly reduces deployment time and cost. AccessPath can be shipped directly to the POP location, eliminating the need for an intermediate stop for integration (for example, rack-mounting and wiring) and configuration. Modular architecture, which enables organizations to start with modest configurations and grow as necessary. AccessPath also permits easy upgrades to new platforms that support higher performance, higher densities, and new access technologies while preserving the original investment. Highly resilient design, which provides redundant paths and separates user and management traffic. Extensive modem management information and capabilities. Fail-safe management path based on the Cisco 2500, which has been successfully deployed in more than 500,000 locations. Widest range of backhaul interfaces, which are compatible with port adapters for the Cisco 7000, 7200, and 7500 platforms. Remote POP management using Cisco`s AccessPath Manager application. High-speed compression or encryption-assist hardware can be optionally included in the process server. Equipment is preinstalled in a rack, cabled, configured, and ready to go. Full Cisco IOS software support, which ensures that customers with Cisco network infrastructures protect and leverage their existing management and training investments. Full range of Cisco service and support options from network implementation and hardware maintenance services to advanced technical consulting, which enables customers to select the most appropriate level of service and support according to their specific needs. Software
For software information for Cisco AccessPath, refer to the "AccessPath Manager" section in the "Network Management Applications" chapter.
Will the AccessPath product go into a T1 or E1 environment?
Will the AccessPath go into an AC or DC environment?
How do you want IOS configured (single channel, or multichannel)? Do you want to specify revision of IOS? The latest tested image is the default.
What backhaul interfaces are desired (if any)? A maximum of two backhaul interfaces can be ordered per router shelf.
Will a redundant call processor be required? What backhaul interfaces are desired for the secondary router shelf?
If a redundant call processor is required, then only 10 dial shelves can be ordered. If a redundant call processor is not required, 12 dial shelves can be ordered. Determine how many dial shelves are desired. Each dial shelf is equivalent to an AS5200 and comes in either 48 or 60 ports/box depending on whether one is ordering T1 or E1, respectively. (If E1/R2 signaling is required, R2 line card kits must be ordered for an external Anadigicom converter box.)
Will you need the modem management technology license? Please order one license for each dial shelf?
What cables are required? Power, E1, Backhaul, and so on.
Do you want AccessPath Manager?
Each base unit comes with a 7-foot rack fully configured with an off-load/backhaul processor (Cisco 7206), console management processor (Cisco 2511), switch interconnect (CAT5000), and OOB modem. All systems are configured with the maximum amount of memory except the 7206, which has 64 MB; thus, no memory options are required in AccessPath.

Each AccessPath comes with a primary router shelf. It must be ordered separately so the factory knows what backhaul interfaces should go into which router shelf. An additional Cisco 7206 can be added to provide additional ISDN processing power, or redundant routing and backhauling. If an additional Cisco 7206 is required, the number of dial servers will be reduced by 2 (Optional).

The E1/PRI card natively supports ISDN but not Channelized E1/R2. Because we do not have an "in-board" channelized E1/R2 solution, we have provided a series of kits that can be ordered to provide this functionality. These E1/R2 kits provide R2 signaling via an external converter box. A converter box supports via line cards up to six AP5260. Two converter boxes will be used if more than six AP5260s are ordered.
Order the number of line cards required (one line card kit per AP5260 dial shelf). The converter boxes will automatically come in AC or DC, based on which AP400 base unit is ordered.

For customers desiring to take advantage of Cisco`s modem management, one technology license must be ordered per AP5200. Each AP5200 comes standard with basic modems that have management capabilities roughly equivalent to the industry norm. The managed modems support the following extra capabilities via an out-of-band management port or via AccessPath Network Manager:
Sending AT commands (while the modem is connected) for additional testing and debugging capabilities
Polling modems
Gathering detailed statistical and status information while a call is in progress

The ISDN version of the E1 card can be ordered with any of the cables that are available on the Cisco 4000 Series E1 cards. Some cables support balanced, and some support unbalanced network connections.
The pinouts on the Anadigicom converter are different from those on the E1 card on the AS5200. Therefore, none of the E1 cables offered above work with the converter. If a customer is purchasing a channelized E1 system with a converter, they must supply their own cables for the connection to the network.
