New Product: Cisco MCS-7822 — Media Convergence Server

Product Overview

The Cisco Media Convergence Server 7822 (MCS-7822) is a low-cost server platform for Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data). The MCS-7822 is a member of the MCS-7800 series server family, which also includes the high-availability MCS-7835. The MCS-7822 is intended to be a pilot or test platform, as a stand-alone server, or a production server when part of a Cisco CallManager 3.0 server cluster. The MCS-7822 comes with Cisco CallManager 3.0 software on an automated installation CD to make the deployment of IP telephony simple and cost-effective.

Key Features and Benefits

The MCS-7822 is a high-performance server platform designed for today`s IP telephony applications. The processor is an Intel Pentium III with a clock speed of 550 MHz. Memory is a robust 512 MB of ECC RAM.

High availability can be achieved with the new clustering capability of Cisco CallManager 3.0. Cisco CallManager Version 3.0 significantly enhances the availability of the enterprise IP telephony solution by allowing you to cluster up to eight servers and manage them as a single entity. Cisco CallManagers can back up each other even if they are physically in different locations. The capability of clustering multiple call-processing servers on an IP network is unique in the industry and highlights the industry-leading architecture of Cisco AVVID.

Servers can be distributed within a single cluster. Clustering aggregates the power of multiple, distributed Cisco CallManagers, enhancing the scalability and accessibility of the servers to phones, gateways, and applications. Triple server redundancy improves overall system availability.

The Cisco AVVID architecture allows for a great deal of scalability to meet the requirements of almost any organization. Cisco CallManager clustering technology allows you to start with ten IP phones and grow your network to tens of thousands of users at your own pace. This is very different from legacy private branch exchange (PBX) technology that forces you to decide the ultimate scalability of your PBX on the day of purchase. We think it makes more economic sense for your voice infrastructure to grow as your business does.

Cisco CallManager is the software-based call-processing component of the Cisco IP telephony solution. The Cisco CallManager software extends telephony features to Cisco IP phones and other packet telephony devices such as media-processing devices, voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways, and multimedia applications. Additional data, voice, and video services such as unified messaging (voice messaging), multimedia conferencing, collaborative contact centers, and interactive multimedia response systems work with the IP telephony solution using the Cisco CallManager open telephony application programming interface (API).
