The Cisco 6705 is a member of the Cisco 6700 series-a carrier class Multi-function Access Platform (MFAP). The Cisco 6705 is designed for customer premise (CP) and small remote terminal (RT) and multi-dwelling unit (MDU) applications. This New World solution provides integrated services from a scalable, modular, and high-bandwidth platform that previously required multiple devices. The Cisco 6705 manages circuit switched and packet-based voice and data traffic simultaneously. This standards-based product (Telcordia, UL, etc.) provides tremendous investment protection for service providers that want to deliver TDM and ATM services today and migrate to a variety of New World services (IP and FR) in the future. This product is designed for North American competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs), inter-exchange carriers (IXCs), and telcos that want to deliver circuit switched telephony services today and migrate to a variety of packet-based New World services from the same platform in the future. Facilitates the transmission of voice and data simultaneously from a single platform (circuit-switched and packet-based) High-density, scalable platform: A single Cisco 6705 can support up to 56 POTS circuits, 16 DS1s or 8 T1s. TDM and ATM services Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) DS-0s carried in a T1 signal can be used to flexibly transport either voice or data traffic. Typically, this T1 will link a Cisco 6732 (CO) with a Cisco 6705 (CPE). When used with a Cisco 6732, the Cisco 6705 delivers a seamless end-to-end (CO, RT, MDU, CPE) integrated access solution Narrowband line interface module options RPOTS/16, FXS/16, RUVG/8, ISDN-BRI/8 Wideband line interface module transport options DS1, T1 Broadband line interface module options DS3, STS1, OC3c (sub-utilized) xDSL line interface module MSDSL-2W (multi-rate symmetric digital subscriber line, 2 wire) and plan to offer variety of additional xDSL options Protect investment and increase revenue opportunity Enhance existing applications in copper or fiber infrastructures Strategize a natural migration path to New World services (broadband and xDSL) Deliver on-demand voice and data services simultaneously Reduce cost Highest density in smallest footprint Increase end-to-end network scalability (Cisco 6732 and Cisco 6705) Reduce inventory and network complexity (Cisco 6732 and Cisco 6705 use the same line interface modules) Network management and provisioning The Cisco 6705 chassis supports any slot/any service (slots 1 - 5) and all line cards are hot swappable Intuitive IP-based element management system simplifies network deployment and provisioning (easy-to-use GUI interface) Scalability one Cisco 6705 can support up to 56 POTS subscribers Reliability designed as a carrier-class network element (the product is offered with an optional 8-hour battery back-up box for power redundancy) Manageability the IP-based element management system (EMS) makes provisioning and monitoring the Cisco 6705 easy End-to-end solution Cisco has tested and deployed large-scale voice and data networks from the CO, RT, and CPE Modularity Provides a natural migration path for customers to grow from Old World to New World services with minimal effort and limited expense using feature-rich line interface module options Telcordia compliant Cisco 6705 Integrated Access Device
