The Cisco 6400 Service Connection Manager (SCM) provides simplified configuration of Layer 2 and Layer 3 services on the Cisco 6400 Universal Access Concentrator for aggregation of Internet Protocol (IP) and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) traffic. It provides New World service management and process automation to simplify the management of even the most complex networks. Cisco Service Connection Manager allows you to easily provision connections, detect faults, configure devices, and track network statistics. The Cisco Element Management Framework (EMF), on which the Cisco Service Connection Manager is based, is focused on delivering a consistent element management solution across Cisco`s Service Provider line of business, with a track to standards-based interfaces to customer Operations Support Systems. Cisco 6400 Service Connection Manager assists the user in making network connections while eliminating the need for the user to have technical knowledge of the SNMP and IOS commands required to establish those connections. It streamlines the provisioning process for and provides complete element management of the Cisco 6400. Cisco Service Connection Manager provides a service-oriented management view of the Cisco 6400`s inbound and outbound connections. Cisco Service Connection Manager enables an operator to: Manually "pre-provision" Cisco 6400s in the management system before actual installation and advise the system to automatically detect its presence and begin management upon physical installation and configuration Utilize the auto-discovery feature to identify new Cisco 6400`s and their detailed hardware configuration, upon physical installation Utilize maps that have been automatically constructed by the management system to show the exact representation of the Cisco 6400 components Configure the Cisco 6400 using service-oriented terms such as "subscribers," eliminating the need to understand the underlying network fabric Create and manage subscribers rather than Cisco 6400 ports and PVCs Provision connections through the Cisco 6400, via a Service/Subscriber-oriented user-interface, without the technical knowledge of the numerous sequences of IOS commands and SNMP MIB variables that underlie the configuration of each connection Define Cisco 6400-based service offering templates such as PPP-L2TP and assign one to each subscriber Define Cisco 6400 QoS templates and assign these to subscriber connections View faults generated by the Cisco 6400, either as SNMP traps or as entries within SNMP MIBs, with color-coded icons on network maps Access the FCAPS functionality, supported by the device via SNMP, through user-friendly GUIs that can be operated by non-SNMP experts Perform "mass" concurrent operations to any number of Cisco 6400 components (NSPs, NRPs, and NLCs), simplifying management of a large deployment of multiple 6400s Access to Cisco MIBs and element management functionality provided with the 6400 (such as the DSL provisioning MIB) via simple tabbed dialog boxes within the Cisco 6400 Service Connection Manager application Analyze historical information provided via the user-friendly Event Browser or Performance Manager Cisco 6400 Service Connection Manager
