The Cisco 6130 digital subscriber line (DSL) access concentrator is a key member of the industry-leading Cisco carrier-class DSL family of products. Designed for large-scale deployment of high-performance, multi-service, and profit-centered DSL services, the Cisco 6130 is intended for North American incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) and competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) networks. The Cisco 6130 has a growing suite of asymmetric and symmetric DSL line technologies. These line technologies-combined with the high-powered ATM switching fabric, edge switch-class traffic management features, and scalable network-management capabilities of this family-enable service providers to move beyond simple, unprofitable, nonextensible data-transmission connections to Internet service providers (ISPs) into profit-generating, New World service offerings. Multiservice DSL DSL line cards currently include standards-compliant ANSI T1.413 Issue 2 asymmetric DSL (ADSL), as well as symmetric DSL (SDSL) cards. Full ADSL data rates are supported (8.024 Mbps downstream/864 Mbps upstream for discrete multitone (DMT) and 1536-Mbps downstream/512-Mbps upstream for G.lite). ADSL subscriber train rates can automatically rate adapt to the highest attainable line speed based on individual loop characteristics, or they can be selectively provisioned based on a desired service definition. For SDSL, data rates up to 1.168 Mbps are supported. Scalable architecture The Cisco 6130 is standard equipped with a proven ATM switching fabric and traffic-management feature set required for high-volume Internet access provisioning. The Cisco 6130 architecture supports a variety of ATM service qualities with scalability to support up to 1664 ports per fully subtended system. Each subscriber access port and network trunk port can have dedicated traffic buffers for ensuring reliable and fair traffic throughput and performance. Scalable, robust, carrier-class network management support The Cisco 6130 is managed by Cisco DSL Manager, a full element-management system that supports up to 350,000 subscribers today, with a path to over one million in the first half of 2000. Advanced features include in-band and out-of-band node access, CORBA application interfaces to higher-layer network management systems (NMS) for flow-through service provisioning, and map-level views of network domains. All of these advanced characteristics combine to create a large-scale network management solution capable of supporting hundreds of thousands, and eventually over one million, subscriber lines. Standards-compliant The Cisco 6130 fully conforms to UL1950, UL 1459, FCC Part 15, Bellcore GR-1089-CORE, and Bellcore GR-63-CORE, as required for central-office or collocation deployment. Compliance to ATM, ANSI, and ITU standards is also provided. Interoperability The Cisco 6130 delivers standards-based, interoperable network and service capabilities including fully interoperable, standards-based ITU G.992.1 (G.dmt) and G.992.2 (G.lite), ANSI T1.413 Issue 2, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over ATM, and integration with the end-to-end Cisco ADSL services architecture. To order and configure a Cisco DSL Access Concentrator, follow these steps (see table below):
1. Select a Cisco 6130 chassis for new installations or existing customers deploying Cisco 6130
2. Select configuration style (Direct with POTS, Direct no POTS), and determine if a POTS splitter is required for that configuration style. Direct with POTS implies basic telephone service. Direct no POTS implies basic telephone service is not required.
3. Select network interface (NI) type, (i.e. single-mode optical, multimode optical, or DS3 coax).
4. Determine whether or not you will use subtending.
5. Select xDSL line card type(s).
6. Add one fan tray per Cisco 6130 chassis if SDSL or ADSL DMT cards are to be used.
7. If deploying a Cisco 6130 with an NI-1 card, add a system controller.
8. Select cables. For future releases Cisco is providing cabling to accommodate higher-density SDSL and ADSL line cards. These cables are recommended for customers planning to wire the Cisco DSL Access Concentrators for expansion from dual- to quad-port configurations.
9. Add miscellaneous parts such as blank cards and a rear door for the shelf.
