New and Changed Information

The enhancements offered by Cisco 800 Fast Step software Release 2.4 are described in this section.

Windows 2000 Support

Cisco Fast Step supports the latest version of Microsoft Windows, Windows 2000.

Advice of Charge Support

The Setup utility can configure the advice of charge feature of the router. (This feature is configurable only for the NET3 ISDN switches.) Details are available in the Cisco Fast Step Design Guide.

TPL Configuration Control

You can create template (TPL) files that configure Cisco 800 series routers using any scenario acceptable to the router. In the past the scenarios available through Cisco Fast Step have limited the configurations to a "family" of scenarios. Although most processes are still confined to these scenarios, the TPL file is not and can use the GUI to download a configuration that would otherwise require command-line entry. The Cisco 800 Fast Step Design Guide, available on the Cisco Fast Step CD or from CCO, contains detailed information to assist you in creating TPL files.

CFG Setup Control

You can create configuration files that automate and control the Setup GUI. A CFG file can be used to control the windows displayed by Setup and add custom commands that would otherwise require command-line entry.

The difference between a CFG and TPL file is the CFG file can control the GUI, but the configuration must be within the limits of the Cisco Fast Step scenarios. The TPL file cannot control the GUI, but it is not limited by the scenarios. The Cisco 800 Fast Step Design Guide contains detailed information to assist you in creating CFG files.

Internet Service Provider Selection Window

This new feature provides a dialog in Setup to select a service provider predefined configuration from a list. Most of the parameters necessary to configure the router to connect to a service provider are included in the configuration. This reduces the chance of error and the time it takes to configure the router. An extensive assortment of service providers is included, and you can add one to the list by using the information in the design guide.

Belle Systems Provisioning Integration

If the service provider is using the Belle Systems provisioning system to distribute router configurations over the network, the Setup utility will interact with the system to configure the router. Details regarding this feature are presented in the Cisco Fast Step Design Guide.

DHCP Relay Support

The Setup utility supports router configurations wherein the DHCP clients on the LAN side of the router want to get a DHCP lease from a DHCP server on the WAN side of the router.

Limitations and Restrictions
